Assemble your top 11 football players (past or present) from your country

Seanus Edited by: Seanus    Apr 15, 2009, 01:38pm /  #
OK, we will start this way but we could move on to putting together teams from other countries. If sb has already named a best 11 from your country, it doesn't matter. Anyone can play.

OK, Scotland:

Leighton
McGrain
Miller
McLeish
Robertson
Collins
McStay
Strachan
Law
Dalglish
McCoist

Tough choice, leaving out some experienced players but only room for 11 I'm afraid.

As I said, scotjock, it was a hard choice. Even for GK, I left out Goram and Gordon. There was no room for Gough, Malpas, Baxter or Nevin. I was a big fan of Nevin's, weavy and jinky. Aha, Jinky Johnstone is also not there :(

Seanus,

No Jim Baxter!, No Lisbon Lions!

I'm afraid not. I'm not gonna go too deep into it. On merit, they should have their rightful places but such is life. Your list?

What, no Rudi Voller? Sammer? Eilts? Who's the GK? Lam or Brehme? Hassler? Ziege? Kohler?

In my opinion these two teams are the strongest ever assembled.

Even then Germany had a ringer playing for them Wittgenstein was bloody Austrian

11. Prinz, Birgit :)

LMFAO. She is good though.

Bratwurst Boy:
9. Klose, Miroslav

You can't be serious?

Are we talking the best 11 as in the best team, or just the 11 best players? Bratwurst seems to have gone for the Blitzkrieg technique...

Anyway, here's my English team. Some tough choices:

G. Banks
B. Moore
R. Ferdinand
D. Edwards
B. Robson
P. Scholes
T. Finney
P. Gascoigne
S. Matthews
B. Charlton
A. Shearer

(3-5-2)

Manager: Ron Greenwood

Common Seanus, don't give Bratwurst nightmares, this team inflicted one of the heaviest defeats on Germany (with a man down) in a World Cup.

Slaven Bilić preparing for that historical quarterfinal match against Germany. LOL I remember watching an interview in which he said Germans were a much better team at Euro'96 then at France'98 and that they were upset German media did not show any respect for their national football team. He was confident of victory. However nobody expected 3-0. There was also a question by a British reporter about how a country with a population of only 4 million could defeat a country of 80 million at football and the answer was if we looked at it in that way the Chinese should be first. :)

The croat team is not very popular in Germany....they bite and scratch and play dirty...as if it were a war.
I can't detect any gratefulness to Germany for helping them to get their independence, they rather seem to hate us! :(

Seanus   Apr 15, 2009, 07:20pm /  #
The Croats fight with almost everyone but I'm sure they're nice enough people away from football.

Irons, thanks for the England team. I'd have quite a few that you selected in there. Also, I agree about Klose. He's diabolical at times, not a patch on Voller or Bierhoff.

So, more teams folks? Don't be shy!! The Serbians may have a tasty team.

I only started following football in the early 90's (it was '92 EC qualifiers)
so my 11 doesn't include players from the legendary 1974 and 1982 teams.

Poland:

1. Maciej Szczęsny
------------------------
2. Jacek Zieliński
3. Tomasz Łapiński
4. Roman Szewczyk
5. Tomasz Wałdoch
------------------------
6. Jacek Krzynówek
7. Mirosław Szymkowiak
8. Piotr Nowak
9. Leszek Pisz
------------------------
10. Roman Kosecki
11. Andrzej Juskowiak
------------------------
12. Józef Wandzik
13. Jan Urban
14. Jacek Ziober
15. Wojciech Kowalczyk
16. Ryszard Tarasiewicz

(yeah, I know there are too many offensive players on my bench lol)

Number 10 against Barcelona (2 goals and an assist):

This isn't progressive assembling here. It's 11 at one go.

P Shilton

J Armfield
S Pearce
B Moore
B Wright

T Finney
B Charlton

In the words of Mike Bassett, England will be playing four-four-f*cking-two!

assembling ?
for what?
it's so easy:
„Football is a simple game: 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans win.“ Gary Lineker
