Since no one has bothered to post a thread about this amazing win at the World Championships I will.

Anna Rogowska got gold, I personally didnt think she'd beat Yelena Isinbayeva again since she's probably one of the best volters i've ever seen..Also Monika Pyrek got silver! Go Poland:

POLAND (POL)

Anna Rogowska Pole Vault W

SILVER Athlete Discipline
Piotr Malachowski Discus Throw M

Not even half the pole vaulter that Elena Isenbaeva is and to be honest if Elena was in any sort of form would have won. She is to pole vaulting what Roger Federer is to Tennis, Tiger Woods is to Golf and more closer to home what Usain Bolt is to 100 Metres.

Yeah i think she and an American were joint 2nd, interesting to see two silver medals on one podium.

ShelleyS:
Piotr Malachowski Discus Throw M
Szymon Ziólkowski Hammer Throw M

ShelleyS:
Tomasz Majewski Shot Put M

These are events that i think of Poles doing well in, i don't know why but hammer throw, shot put, javelin, discuss etc etc maybe because of the need for explosive power.

So congratulations to the Poles for their efforts, as a Brit i'm very dissapointed with our medal count although at least we have 2 golds :) not much else though!!!! Not good enough for a nation of our athletic history.

She's in peak condition, she's been beat before by Anna Rogowska, she even said, she couldnt explain why she didnt perform.

Im not bothering to respond to the rest of your post, because you pissed on a post which was praising someone worthy of praise.

I will put my money where my mouth is I bet you £100 that Anna Rodowska gets a gold at the 2012 olympics! She has a very special talent and is exceptional. I was surprised but not shocked, time for Elena Isinbaeva to move on the lower bit of the podium!

As for the Brits, we've had our day, the more we pay our athletes the less they perform! We excell on the water not the track or field - very few and far between, thank god for Jesica Ennis, who hopefully will produce on the day(s) in 2012!

As a side note Torney, will you be watching the Zurich meet? I cant wait for Rogowska to kick Isinbaeva's ass now, just to prove you are sooooooooooooooooo wrong.

Anna Rodowska - 28 years old
Elena Isinbaeva - 29 years old

Only a year, but its like dog years in athletics! An extra year of wear and tear!

By the way I am a big fan of Elena Isinbaeva but there is someone out there better now!

Polands doing well, i was pissed to see that big German dude pip the Polish guy on his last throw on the discuss. Gutted, i lip read the words on Machlowki's lips after his last throw fell short, he clearly mouthed the word KURWA. LOL Beaten by a German in such a cruel way, that sucks man.

She's in peak condition

i would say her peak condition is when she is breaking records over and over again, winning titles over and over again.

ShelleyS:
she couldnt explain why she didnt perform

mental state, its rather a common thing in sports people, they have the talent, fitness etc and sometimes their heads let them down. She has not been in great form so her confidence was low. If you had both athletes at 100% full conditioning Elena Isenbaeva would win, she is the record holder and nobody has ever vaulted higher than her.

ShelleyS:
Im not bothering to respond to the rest of your post, because you pissed on a post which was praising someone worthy of praise

who said i was not praising her/them??? I just pointed out that the 'best' athlete did not win the contest, its like Usain Bolt having a bad race, you know he is the best but didn't win on that occassion.

ShelleyS:
As for the Brits, we've had our day, the more we pay our athletes the less they perform!

i agree with that, we over fund then so they have an 'easy lifestyle' if they had something to fight for maybe they would perform better.

ShelleyS:

I wil be looking out of course :)

that also means that Rodowska will never achieve and win as much as Isinbaeva. She is a year behind in age but a lot more in wins/titles/talent.

ShelleyS:
By the way I am a big fan of Elena Isinbaeva but there is someone out there better now!

there comes a point where a champion becomes a 'former champion' maybe it is her time, nobody could beat her at her peak :)

I'm not a Pole but i'm British so will always favour the Pole over the German, i was a bit gutted too as i sort of know how Machlowski felt getting piped at the last second. What i find strange about him is that he can throw it so far but his technique is..... well.........

Peak condition is when an athlete is training well and has no injuries, it has nothing whatsoever to do with "winning"

tornado2007:
mental state,

What are you going on about, she's an olympic gold medalist...

She didnt make any excuses, she just said she didnt know what happened, why are you making excuses for her when she didnt bother, she was 100%, no injuries, nada!

tornado2007:
that also means that Rodowska will never achieve and win as much as Isinbaeva. She is a year behind in age but a lot more in wins/titles/talent.

That all depends if someone better than Rodowska comes along in the next 3 years and has world championships under her belt, gold at the olympics would be nice, lets see, I have faith in her!

tornado2007:

You keep saying "peak" ,she is in peak condition - she didnt pull it out the bag on the day, it happens.

I personally favour the best athlete who doesnt make a tit of him/herself - as for his technique, as you an expert??? I was a runner and long jump so can make a judgement on certain diciplines, were you a shotputter or discus thrower?

Peak condition is when an athlete is training well and has no injuries, it has nothing whatsoever to do with "winning"

it also has a lot to do with 'mental state' which she was obviously not in top condition :) As for winning, i think you will find that this is when an athlete is at their 'peak'

ShelleyS:
What are you going on about, she's an olympic gold medalist...

you obviously don't know very much about sport, preparing for sport and actually doing the sport and having to perform time after time. Each event has a lot of mental preperation, it does not matter if you have won 10 gold medals or no gold medals, the preperation is still the same.

There is always the pressure to perform, that never goes away, dosen't matter how much you win or lose. Pressure is a wonderful thing and does the strangest of things to the best performers in the world. What seperates the 'elite' from the 'excellent' isn't usually talent as most top players/athletes/or whatever sport you want to consider, is dependant on bottle, performance under pressure and nerve.

Take for example Mark Lewis Francis, he is the prime example of what i would call a 'bottler' has a weak mental side to his sport. When he first broke onto the scene he seemed to have it all, however his nerve let him down, therefore his 'mental' status.

ShelleyS:
She didnt make any excuses, she just said she didnt know what happened, why are you making excuses for her when she didnt bother, she was 100%, no injuries, nada!

I'm pointing out her mental state after her recent poor form (by her standards) if your used to winning and suddenly its not happening for you, its almost as difficult to deal with as never winning and trying to win.

ShelleyS:
That all depends if someone better than Rodowska comes along in the next 3 years and has world championships under her belt, gold at the olympics would be nice, lets see, I have faith in her!

hay i mean good luck to her, she was the best of the rest and took advantage of the situation and grabbed herself a gold medal, thats a brilliant performance by anybodies standards!!

ShelleyS:
I personally favour the best athlete who doesnt make a tit of him/herself

i agree

ShelleyS:
as for his technique, as you an expert??? were you a shotputter or discus thrower?

I'm not an expert at either shotput or discuss, i have the build of a runner & swimmer, not a putter or thrower. I can tell you though the commentator on the TV was an expert and sure did know what he was talking about :) I was not picking at the guy i wasjust pointing out what power he must have due to his lack of technique.

ShelleyS:
I was a runner and long jump so can make a judgement on certain diciplines

well we have something in commong then, i also was a runner and long jumper, I also dabbled in swimming too before moving to team sports.

They supported the croatian jumper as much as the german one even as she was her fiercest rival...you wouldn't think of it, I know! You are a tit...

I think you will find even the best althete loses, nothing to do with their condition, I think you are reading it wrong.

tornado2007:

I was a member of a running club for years and ran competitively up and down the country..I know quite a bit about the sport. How about you?

tornado2007:

Damn right it doesnt, thats what makes us perform on the day, its called nerves!

tornado2007:
not a putter or thrower

Then you know nothing about technique. I dont tend to listen too much to comentators, I keep hearing about the 8th lane in the hurdles and whilst its a really bad lane, I have seen GOOD athletes win.

i did think of it and did notice it :) so i'm not that much of a tit then am i :) What is the problem with me saying that i would prefer a Pole to win over a German?

Its obvious that the German crowd has inspired some of its athletes to perform better than they usually do, a good crowd if you ask me, i'm also a big fan of the german football crowds who create amazing atmospheres.

ShelleyS:

conditioning is what allows an athlete to perfrom, so how can it have nothing to do with it?

ShelleyS:
I was a member of a running club for years and ran competitively up and down the country..I know quite a bit about the sport. How about you?

i've done exactly the same as you and a lot more in a lot of sports, i also teach/coach sports to children (Disabled/Able) and also coach a football and cricket team. I don't claim to be all knowing, in fact far from it, however i do think like yourself i'm qualified to talk on this subject.

ShelleyS:
its called nerves!

yeah i like to call it 'having bottle' sounds more positive, if you 'have' bottle it sounds a lot more positive than 'having' nerves :) I guess its about the psychology

ShelleyS:
Then you know nothing about technique

what nothing about technique at all, or just in these events?? Ow and by the way i think a commentator who has been watching, studying and reading up on athletics for years knows a thing or too :)

I hate showboating Bratty, hence the reason I cant stand Bolt, no matter how good he is, the German (I know he was excited, but please, lets have a bit of dignity) tore off his top, up that to that point I though, good lad, well done, after that, I just thought he was a tit!

Bratwurst Boy:

He most certainly is ;0)

You really need to take a trip to Croatia, she's quite plain in comparison to most of the girls...

Well done Poland!! Excellent results!

I looked at the main Berlin Athletics 2009 competition entire final medals list on the net and noticed that "Italy" was missing from it. Did anyone know, did Italy compete, or they simply didn't produce any medal?

Then you know nothing

Well with this in mind, when i watched the Zurich IAAF meeting yesterday i was looking forward to the Women's Pole Vault, hoping for a bit of 'proof in the pudding' as far as my reasoning for Elena's performance in Berlin. Low and behold look what happened in Zurich, a new world record, she even managed to upstage Usain Bolt, which takes a lot these days.

http://www.iaaf.org/GLE09/news/newsid=54145.html (For those who are not so keen on athletics, here is a link that tells the story :) )

these are the Gold/Silver medal placings, just take a look at the difference in heights cleared:

1 Elena Isinbaeva [RUS] RUS 5.06 20+6(WR)
2 Anna Rogowska [POL] POL 4.76 16

If Rogowska ever clears 5.06 (Which i seriously doubt) I will eat my boxers and post the video of me doing so!!! Form is temporary while class is permanent :):):). I'm not a Ruski lover or a Pole basher but like to see the best win.
