Could Poland host the Winter Olympics?

Just curious. I don't know much about winter sports but just wondered if Poland had the infrastructure, resorts, terrain to host such an event? I am aware there are the Tatras and places like Zakopane which have some great winter sport facilities, but is it enough to be able to host an event of such magnitude?

They thought so in 2006 : Zakopane bid for winter Olympics Wiki

Poland's government would back Zakopane's bid to host the 2006 Winter Olympics...Economic Committee would give money to Zakopane's Olympic bid. Deputy Finance Minister...Jerzy Miller said holding the Olympics in Zakopane would cost 850 million dollars.

Interesting. Wonder if Poland would decide to make any future bids. The list on Wiki shows this was the one and only time they tried.

Zakopane has the fundamentals to hold the games, i dont think they have a bob sleigh, run, ice rink or appropriate infrastructure. In terms of resort size, altitude, snow record, accommodation it fits the profile, yeh why not.

$850m sounds about right.

Wow, what a great thought. I think it would do wondres for the country as a whole, putting it center stage to all the world. I just wonder how $850 M would/could effect the economy as a whole.
