Indeed, forgot about that. My sincerest condolances to Germany on that one. I am embarrassed that I forgot about it, sorry again. It was big news in NL too as I understand from my parents. It shows one that there are more important things than just football.

And thanks again to you Polson named PREDICTION GAME GOD for your great effort.

Yes, Kubilay Türkyılmaz was also a good Turkish player playing for Swiss. One more was the brother of Hakan Yakın, Murat Yakın. I did not mention these two as they are retired players. Meanwhile, congrats Seanus for your football memory.

Well done everyone. As a passing thought, The Irish game was 0-1 at full time so I lost half a point as extra time seems to be included, second time the Irish has been done over in France on the same night lol.

I'm very pleased share the Championship with Rock though. Congratulations.

Thanks, Rock. I know quite a lot of old players. Has anyone seen Roy Keane's reaction to the game on BBC? Comical and sad!

I guess, you might also remember Tugay Kerimoğlu who played 2 seasons in Glasgow Rangers and then 7-8 seasons in Blackburn Rovers. He quit football at the end of last season.

I've just watched the replay of Henry's handball more closely. Not only was it that but 1 French player was blatantly offside. Oh, and throw in the fact that another tried to handle it midair and you have quite a kafuffle.

I'm afraid it's history now as the result stands. The decent thing to have done was to replay the game in a neutral Country. They blatantly say this can't be done, even though they have done this already a few years ago. FIFA's failure to replay this game and their reluctance to have any TV referees at important games like this, just reinforces my believes that they WANT the bigger clubs to win and will give them a helping hand (no pun intended) if need be.

Their smaller brother the FA is the same. Just look at the cheating the big clubs do in the ELP, how decisions always seem to go their way, and how much TV coverage they get compered to the little ones. It all comes down to money, and the better the big clubs do, the more money in the pockets of the FA and FIFA from various revenues like TV broadcasting rights as these governing bodies have a finger in every pie.

If these authorities want to stand for fair play in football, and show that there is no corruption, then they shouldn't hesitate in having a TV referee at every game, who could quickly relay to the official ref if there was any cheating going on in the penalty box, that he may have missed. Until this happens then we can only speculate if some games in football are fair or not.

Exactly, Vincent. I think the players are too worn out to go playing another game. It was a heavy emotional blow. I can't believe that the ref didn't even bat an eyelid. The linesman was looking right down the line too. Surely the simultaneous rising of arms told him that sth was amiss.

Having France there is appealing to the likes of Platini and others high up in the echelons of football. They cling to old glories but have really been inept since losing Zizou. They will be shown up in due course but their strength is that they are tricky to beat. Rarely does anybody really cuff them but I can see the Dutch doing it.

Rugby seems so much more advanced when it comes to the review of decisions.

So true! The same thing happened today in an EPL game. The ball game into the penalty box, a player stopped it with his hand, then kicked it into the net! The ref or lineman didn't see anything wrong. Luckily it did not change the result as their opponents responded in the best possible way by hitting back with 7 more goals. The incident though just confirms that video replays is very much needed.

Rugby

Its so much more enjoyable when the ref has a mic and you can hear what hes saying to the players.

Not just explaining his decisions but also the warnings he gives to players - then when he gives a foul against them you know it was the players own fault etc

Also Scotland 9 Australia 8.

Not possible!
If you want to have a replay, everybody else and his grandmom will demand a replay at every little fart going the wrong way.

Sometimes your team is in the luck and sometimes it has bad luck...happens to everybody, get over it!

The FIFA rules have it that referree decisions can't be changed external later....again doing that would open a pandora's box. Where to stop? A tournament with endless court fights and lawyers after the games are long over? Better not starting....
And don't forget, next time it can be YOUR team enjoying the luck knowing that not all was hundred percent correct. ;)

BB, I take the middle position. Roy Keane was overly harsh in his BBC interview. Still, we cannot understate the importance of such a decision. Plus, regardless of the magnitude, it was a horrible decision and wrong on its own merits.

Fifa has ordered a game to be replayed before – Uzbekistan's 2006 World Cup qualifier against Bahrain.

I can't remember all the facts as it's 3 years ago, but it was something to do with a referee's blunder after a penalty kick. Will try to find something on the net about it.

Yes, because that would be against the FIFA rules to leave the referree alone...

This situation was not quite so easy as using the hand for a goal....
