The defeat of Kuznetsova, a former US Open champion, by Polish teenager Agneiszka Radwanska was the biggest upset yet on the women's side of the draw, with three of the top 10 seeds now gone by the third round.

We'll see if she will be able to follow up and win the next game (against a worse opponent).

I think she can beat the next opponent (a Russian again...LoL).

Another Pole, Domachowska is going to play against a Chinese player...Good luck to her ;) Two Poles in 1/8 finals would be great :)

I was very positively surprised to see how Marta Domachowska played - it was a very good tennis. She has an excellent serve and overall ideal body building to play tennis. She should be in the first 30 ATP this year.

OMG, Marta is having sex change? I so prefer her with breasts (j/k), so it wou7ld be a shame if she left WTA and played with the men.

Agnieszka lost today against Hantuchova. The Slovak player had a great day and it would be hard for any player to beat her today. But still she's 6 years older than Radwanska and it's her first semi-final in this top class.

Thread attached on merging:
Radwanska chokes again

Aga radwanska choked at the US open and now at the Australian open. She needs to take lessons from mariusz pudzianowski and otlia jedrzejczak on how to become a champion.

Well, she's young and on a big stage but she's bettered last years Australian Open performance which is a positive thing. It's the best she's done in any Grand Slam event.

She needs to concentrate a little more on getting some tour titles under her belt though.

TSONGA !!!!!! Now there are no Poles left, let's support Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the French player (ranked 68th) just beat Rafael Nadal 6-2/6-3/6-2 in the semifinals !!! He will play Federer or Djokovic ;)

She's not had a great start to her first round match this year. Lost the first set in the tie-break.

She's won the second set 6-4. Should have won it 6-3 but had her serve broken and had to break-back to win. Decider set. :}

Well, Aga is out. Lost the third set 6-1. That concludes the contribution to this thread for this year - see you in one year. :)

I think she was suffering from the heat. A few of her latter serves were lethargic to say the least.

Part of it. She didn't look great. Whether that was to do with the heat or her own physical fitness, I don't know. She just didn't seem to move or serve well. Her opponent took advantage of that and won the match. She will play in the doubles so hopefully will have another chance to see her. :}

She got pretty far though, right? Not a bad effort?

its 37 degrees today in melbourne, sweltering enough for us office workers so can imagine what it would be like on tennis court. especially for someone unaccustomed to the heat.

It's not the best result for her at all.

They have a choice to take a ten minute heat break after two sets (women only) but I don't think they took it, maybe they should have...

believe me polskadoll, the heat in melbourne is fierce and sucks the life out of you. i have talked to people from other countries and most say the heat here is the worst they have come across.

and the weather leading up to the tournament has been very mild.

im not sure taking a break would have helped.

I understand that. There are many who say this tournament should not be getting held at this time of year in Melbourne and I agree with them. Every year there are too many issues about the heat.

I suppose it depends how you spend the break. 10 minutes is not long but if you go off -court (that's allowed) and take a quick cold shower or something it can help.

they have already moved it 2 weeks, which is nothing...but move it to when??

January, February and some of March are our hottest time of the year, then it gets cooler but also a lot more chance of rain. no easy solution.
