ALBERTO CONTADOR showed today who is the boss !!!! again !!!!!!

Is it enough? Contador really has to do some more before the ITT - Armstrong will put time into him there, and Contador really doesn't want to have the thing decided on Ventoux.

I still don't trust or believe that Armstrong is finished.

Of course Klodens grandfather won the Tour de France in 1940, here we can see him breaking away from the pack.......

I just don't know. He was looking finished at several points, he was out of the saddle and looking well...old - but then he was sitting back down and making no real effort to actually try and chase down anyone. When Contador broke away, he didn't try to react at all - and it makes me wonder if the Astana strategy is simply to let Contador open up 3-4 minutes before the ITT and hope he survives from there on.

Or maybe Lance really just isn't superhuman.

Personally, after today's stage (16, I believe), Lance just doesn't have it this year. Lance admitted that Contador has a much higher VAM (vertical ascent in meters) than he ever had, even in his best years. (Contador's VAM speed is something like 1850, Lance's best was around 1790...)

As much as I'd like to see Lance win again, I'm afraid Contador is the "Tiger Woods" of cycling these days and is, essentially, a superior athlete who was designed for the bike. Plus, even if Contador has an off day in the mountains, Lance won't attack a teammate wearing yellow.

Lance's only hope is the time trial, but it's too short to make up a minute and a half.

Contador appears to be the future of the TDF... and I don't really care much for his personality!

Don't rule Armstrong out just yet. No-one knows what Armstrong is actually capable of yet - he still hasn't appeared to actually try his hardest to stay with Contador, and it might just suit him to have people attacking Contador instead of him.

Armstrong is the master of psychology and mind games. He could easily be lulling Contador and others into believing that he's finished, all the while keeping Contador within reach - only to destroy him on Ventoux.

If the Schleck brothers attack Contador tomorrow, then although it probably won't succeed, Contador's going to go into the ITT weakened. That sets him up for Armstrong to take some time off him, and although the course isn't long enough for a serious amount of time, let's not forget that Leipheimer took 2"18 out of Contador in 2007 on a 55km ITT - so even given Contador's improvement since then, he could easily lose a minute or so to an Armstrong that's been pretending to be weakened all along.

If Armstrong is indeed up to his old mind games, then he could conceivably go into Ventoux behind by less than a minute. And everyone knows that Armstrong came to win.

I don't know. I really, really don't know how this is going to go.

Just something to bear in mind.

Armstrong has never won Ventoux, and even mentions in his book how he got told off by Eddy Merckx for gifting the stage to Pantani. There's huge significance attached to Ventoux by Armstrong, and he's publicly stated before that his big regret is never having won a stage on there. Then add in the fact that they've arranged for Armstrong to get a delivery of mail by cancer survivors before Ventoux.

He took 31 seconds off Ulrich in the above video.

Contador has *everything* to fear from Ventoux, even down to the fact that he lost nearly 2 minutes to Valverde during the Dauphine Libere this year there. For that reason...

on saturday it is going to be a good day , we have a few lossers this year in the tour

one of them is Carlos Sastre ,i think we will try to do something good .

another one is Armstrong , a guy who is finished and has no dignity for trying to get the number one status of the team , just because of the past.
miguel indurain looked around when his time came to retire and accepted it like a champion .

another thing is, why Bruyneel , went today with armstrong and not with Contador?

Contador has won half of the tour on his own , he does not need these two wan*ers
and nobody of astana has helped him , thats why he deserves the tour.

i dont think Bradley Wiggins will be better than armtrong on saturday but what i hope Frank Schleck or Andréas Klöden takes the podium of this yank on sunday .

ALBERTO CONTADOR won THE TOUR 2009 :) :) :) :)

Don't say such things - he's still got to make it to Paris!

I wonder how Contador will do next year against a Armstrong-led team in the spirit of US Postal, especially as Team RadioShack is likely to be one of the best funded, if not the best funded team in the tour. Yep, he's the strongest rider, but hardly of the other teams did anything to counter him - even Saxo Bank were supporting his efforts! And let's not forget that both his Tour wins have came on the back of Bruyneel - would Waughters (given the speculation) really have the experience and nous to guide Contador to another win?

Rumour has it that Astana are finished as a team already and that they won't be making it to the Vuelta - and given that the UCI registration is held by Bruyneel, not by the Kazakh Cycling Federation, I can't see them being given entry for next year's Pro Tour. Vinokourov is supposedly coming back to lead them, but with his history, will anyone want to touch them?

Can't help but think that we haven't seen the final chapter in the Armstrong-Contador rivalry...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/other_sports/cycling/8178940.stm

Tour de France stage 16 winner Mikel Astarloza has been suspended by the International Cycling Union after a positive test for blood-booster EPO.
