Hello, baggieboy.

I'm a speedway fan too. I watch both Polish and English leagues on television
and never tried to watch it online, but I'll try to ask around and see if I can
find some useful links for you.

Which English team do you support?

EDIT:

You can watch a summary of the last round of Speedway Ekstraliga here:

http://sport.tvp.pl/zuzel/centernet-mobile-speedway-ekstraliga/wideo/p odsumowanie-13-kolejki-centernet-mobile-speedway-ekstraligi

Apparently, the same website also does online transmissions of Ekstraliga matches.
I'll try to post a link next Sunday - watch this space...

Oh, yes - Wolverhampton, great team.

Bad luck losing 45:51 to Peterborough recently, but still you're comfortably
on the second place. There's no way Peterborough or Lakeside will catch up
with you and Swindon is not that much ahead of you (only 4 points, isn't it?).

Yes Lakeside got 6 home matches in a row now though they should get into play-off and it will be all about who keeps the teams fit and hits form at the right time .
We have awaesome pair of Freddie Lindgren and Peter Karlsson also Tai Woffinden and Adam Skornicki Ty Proctor a good reserve to we wont be far off . Only glad Emil not get his permit sorted to ride for Swindon the start of the year else it would all be over i think bar the shouting.
Where do you watch your speedway Torq? i couldn't believe the size of the crowds in the Polish leagu matches and the terraces all the flag waving looks brilliant .

PM me your address, Baggie and I'll send you some Polish Speedway magazines.
I bet none of your mates in WestBromwich has any issues of "Super Speedway"
or "Tygodnik Żużlowy" so you will have something to brag about :)

baggieboy:
Where do you watch your speedway Torq?

I watch it on telly and sometimes go to Gorzów to watch league matches.

The best track in Poland (and probably in the World) is the MotoArena in Toruń

What a Stadium i would send you one of Monmore Green but it is laughable compared to this arena how many people does this place hold ?
Do they fill it too? How much do they charge to get in ?
I have been watching some odd races on you tube Leszno and Unia Tarnow is it ? also Gora awesome and Polonia Emils team .

Cheers!

As for the info on MotoArena:

It can hold 15500 supporters and usually about 12-15 thousand watch Unibax league
matches (I think it was about 15300 against Polonia Bydgoszcz two weeks ago).
More people would probably like to watch major events like GP, Polish Individual
Championship or World Championship but there's no point in building a bigger stadium
just to fill it only for couple of events in a season.

Tickets for league games cost from 30-70 PLN (7-18 euro) depending on the sector.
Season tickets cost 70-180 euro also depending on the sector.

You can also buy a Golden Card for 1300 PLN. It's like a season ticket plus your
own parking place, free match program and entrance to machine park one hour
before the meeting and shortly after the end of the match).

Nice pictures! Nothing wrong with those tracks - they look OK and the supporters
seem to be enjoying themselves and that's the most important thing.

You should see football stadiums in Poland - they are truly laughable compared
to the English stadiums.

No i meant scale wise yours on a much larger scale , the fans are the same everywhere i think most of them are just glad to have the sport near to them .
The amount of tracks and teams that have stopped racing over last ten years or so is a high one teams coming out and lasting only for a few seasons and stuff like that , problems with noise and parking too dont help .
I would be able to name a good 8 to 10 sports in front of Speedway in England in fan base and importance i think you only have 2 or 3 am i right ? volleyball and Football .
We have Rugby, cricket, horse racing , greyhound racing , Tennis , Darts , Motor racing ,Snooker, Eventing when in season , Show jumping ,
So they tend to be real loyal die hard fans at the meetings .

That's true - in Poland only football and volleyball can be compared to speedway
in terms of popularity. It is sad to hear that teams in England stop racing - it's the
other way around in Poland, we have three leagues (Ekstraliga, 1 Liga and 2 Liga)
and it looks like there will be a new speedway center in our country - Przemyśl is going
to have their speedway team for the first time next season, so the future looks bright.

We have 3 tiers in England too Torq Elite , Premier and Confrence the confrence the lower tier tends to be for the young rider trying to establish themself and older riders not willing to give it in just yet .
But all the same there are some real good meetings Plymouth Devils ride in this tier and i have spent many a friday night watching them on the south west coast.
The premier league is the natural step up for the best of the conference riders to make before the push up into the elite league, a rider can ride for confrence and premier teams at the same time to gain experience .
Or Premier league and Elite not all three .

Good stuff. As for the sports that are more popular than Speedway in England
then, with all due respect for those sports and their supporters, how can darts,
tennis, snooker or show jumping be more popular than speedway is simply beyond me :)

Well they have loads of T.V coverage and speedway has only just started to pick up on T.V recently say 9 years due to Sky T.V. the sattelite channel they have cricket and rugby on from round the globe on all the time Horse racing every major meeting is in and it has two channels just for the sport all day and american and australian racing through the night.
Darts has always been popular too show jumping the royal family hold the Badminton horse trials and all the big ones are on t.v.
Snooker is on every time there is a tournament an goes on till 2 in the morning some times .
And Tennis we got the Wimbledon and Eastbourne and we have all the USA ones from flushing Meadow an places like that the australian tennis and middle eastern ones too Hard court and grass its mind boggling .
Speedway is well down the list and i forgot the Golf too thats really big here too we just had the open on for 3 days solid with the european masters in sweden i think it was .
The highest profile teams in the last 5 to 10 years to stop were without doubt Cradley Heathens who had the likes of Erik Gunderson , Simon Wigg , Simon Cross , Jan O Pederson , Billy Hamill, Greg Hancock and the Graham brothers Andy and Alan .
There stadium was sold to build new houses on it terrible shame they still race every now and again in special meetings .
Also Oxford Cheetahs who Hans Nielson rode for and Reading Bulldogs , Hackney Kestrels and and at least 8 more .
There have been a few new one opened Birmingham reopened after tewn years or more at Perry Barr again 2 years ago and are doing really well and there are plans for Exeter and Bristol both to race again too so thats a good thing .

Well, I guess it's all about money and media. If speedway in UK got more TV coverage then
teams would get more money off the sponsors but I guess the competition from all those
other sports is too high. Taking all that into account I'd say that speedway in England
is doing quite well. I wonder if it'll be possible to make it more popular in other countries
(probably not without huge amount of money). I'd love to see strong speedway leagues
in countries like Germany, France or Italy - it would help the sport a lot.

Anyway - check out that awesome charge by Gollob taking over Chrzanowski:

This is speedway!

So would i Torq because to be honest the world cup showed that the ability is there given the chance from so many the Russians for sure and the Americans have always been in there till recently we need to give these countries and riders from them all the chances we can to improve . And the russians admit freely it is only since the restrictions on riding and travel were lifted that has brought them on so quickly and that ice speedway is the way that most riders go in that neck of the woods .
We need as many oppurtunities as we can out there for young riders from all countries to improve and raise the standards a bit at a time .
I keep an eye on Christian Heffenbrock who was at wolves he rides in the German Bundesliga with Diedenbergen but the amount of meetings they have is very poor and really spaced out time wise they need more .
I know the top riders are on the go travel wise constantly but there must be room for a few more meeting in these countries and more teams in leagues for the second and third tier riders to improve there bike skills .
And if it was presented right and promoted well the fans would turn up i think especially in Europe .
I seriously think all the money they throw at the football is a bubble waiting to burst big time and it wont be long it ids getting really expensive to watch football in England speedway has the edge value wise for a start .

Exactly! We have two foreign teams in our leagues: Lokomotive Daugavpils from Latvia
in 1 Liga and Hungarian Speedway Miskolc in 2 Liga. It is great to have those lads racing
with us and developping their skills but it would be even better if their countries were
running their own professional leagues.

Spot on about the amount of money being thrown at football - ridiculous if you ask me.
If only Speedway could get 10% of that funding! Ah, well - we can only dream, it's
a different scale.

Aint it just we have had John Terry who plays for chelsea thinking about signing a contract for 250 ,ooo a week how bloody ridiculous and it only comes out of the fans and corporate side of it , it cant and wont be able to sustain that amount of greed from everyone it is not what it used to be thats for sure . Would much rather get a nose full of bike fumes on the first bend and a bit of shale flying around the track and they are never too busy to speak to the fans and sign autographs and stuff i could not get my Girlfriend home from Billy Hamills meeting at wolves had her picture taken with all her favourites . And was well pleased when she finally got home but Jason crump was brilliant went all down the straight signing stuff an having pictures taken with young kids and whoever asked as did they all but he was last off the track a true world champoins job done ,
.
How many of your Ronaldo's and Terrys would do that not many ..

I think Christian Heffenbrock is riding for them at the moment if i am not mistaken he was a good rider around the wolves only young but willing to give his all ,

You make some very good points there, Baggie. Football is no longer a game it
used to be and it very often pisses me off to see footballers acting like Hollywod
movie stars.

There is much more fighting spirit and authenticity in speedway than in football
nowadays and your description below...

Hi Torq , hope you have had a good weekend ; no luck with those links im afraid . I have been trawling through endless web sites for hours trying to find some speedway
all to no avail will try another time i think .
I thought Tomasz or Emil were going to pull something out of the fire saturday in Latvia, but it could not have gone to a nicer guy than Greg Hancock a 110 percent proffesional and great advert for the sport .
And at 10/1 a bloody good bet too only had 10 pounds on him but was very nice will buy the girlfriend something nice and keep me in her good books. Was very poor track for a long time i thought , not the best of G.P'S this season , but we cant have it our way all the time can we ?
Take care my friend and have a good week dont work too hard work will always be there when we are not .
By the weay Torq thanks for that beautifull Polish Beer it/ she was a lovely sight lol , i have just read some more of the posts on there and there are some sad , sad , people around i really dont see the point in a lot of it its a lot easier truly to get on with someone it has to be or the whole world is in some serious trouble .

Hi Baggie, I didn't have the greatest weekend ever I'm afraid. Had to take my little daughter
to a doctor and help my wife to take care of her. It's nothing serious really, but we got a
bit scared.
Sorry about the speedway links, I didn't watch it myself - will try to find something next
Sunday, sorry.

Don't mind some of the stuff posted on this site. It's an open, public forum so we have
loads of nutters posting sh*ite and the moderators seem to be quite tolerant (some
of the hatred-filled sickos would get banned from other forums for half of the bullcrap
they post here). It's best to just ignore that.

Take care of yourself, mate. Will talk to you soon.

Baggieboy,
There is a link to watch Speedway Ekstraliga online (Sunday, August 30):

http://www.soccer-live.pl/transmisje.php?id=motorsport

Please scroll down to Program na Niedzielę 30. Sierpnia 2009. There are three matches: 17:30 Cognor Częstochowa – Unia Leszno; 18:30 Unibax Toruń – Polonia Bydgoszcz (audio only) and 19:30 Falubaz Zielona Góra – Stal Gorzów Wlkp.

You should also install Sopcast and choose Public Sport 2 (Pol) 450 kb/s. I am not sure how Pliptv works.
