Kraków Restaurants

It's my Birthday on Tuesday and, as such I am looking to go somewhere for my birthday dinner. I am not really sure what kind of food I fancy so really just looking for some personal reccommendations on places that serve nice food (and plenty of it) at a reasonable price. Also somewhere not too romantic as I will be dining alone.

It's gonna be a nice big deal because, with the break up, the stress of being homeless for a couple of days and being now on Polish wages as my sterling has dried up has meant not having had a proper sit down meal in about a month, added to the fact that it's my birthday I am looking for something a bit special.

I hope you moved into that place, you have been having a rough time.
You must eat and eat well, I don't mean to sound like an old woman, but your body and mind need nutrition. This will help you have a more positive attitude (I'm not saying you are negative) and make you feel better. Your machine needs fuel.

If you fancy vegetarian I recommend VEGA in Poland, Krakow.

or some of the Italian places around Ulitca Senacka.

I am not sentimental about birthdays, I have not celebrated my own since I was about 9.

How is life going for you now? You had a bit of a rough entry, if I remember correctly?
What made you choose Poland in the first place?

I found another place by Krowodrza Górka which is really nice. Good heating, nice flatmate, nice big room and super fast internet which is a bonus. I am fully aware of the health benifits of eating food. I watched Live8 and all that stuff!

I do quite like vegitarian food, although my experience in Glasgow of Vegi restaurants is that the portions never fill me up and I end up having to make myself an egg and bacon piece when I get home haha.

It was a rough entry into Poland, that's for sure. But things are starting to fall back into place. I have a job now (I also got a small raise after 3 weeks which is good), made some friends and have somewhere nice to live (with good transport links so I don't need to waste money on taxis.

I have always been quite a big birthday person, always took the week of work for a week long party with my mates so this will be the first time I am working and don't have a crowd of folk all about the city that I know...so I wanted to do something nice.

Oh and I was meant to be going to Norway in July to vaccinate fish (doesn't sound too good, but it does pay 800pound a week after tax), but I met my girlfriend in Scotland about 3 months before I was due to fly out and so bailed on that idea and decided to stay on in Scotland for a while longer...then another 3 months on the missus had to come back for uni and asked me to come along too. That's why I chose Poland...fool that I am.

But as I say, things are getting better and hopefully after a bit longer I will be more settled and stuff. It's not an easy city to live in, but I'm sure I will get used to it. I managed in South East Asia for 5 years...no reason I can't stick it out in Poland!

I was in Singapore, Indonesia and Vietnam for various amounts of time.

I know a great place in Szeroka street in the Jewish quarter.
It's called Ariel.
Try ringing them and asking if they will have live music that night.
It is a very small Jewish restaurant but i doubt the meat is kosher.
It might not be the cheapest though...hhhmmm... i don't remember it being overly priced.

I can check it out tomorrow on my way to work. I just work on Miodowa so it's handy enough. I have never eaten Jewish food...what should I expect?

35pln is pretty good, portions in the pictures look a decent size and 35pln for 3 courses is decent.

I recommend that you ring them up and ask them if there is any live Jewish music playing that night.
The live music is fantastic, it is such a cozy place.

I will wander in and ask tomorrow afternoon cos i have work at 1800 and so have pretty much a whole afternoon to waste. I think me and my workmate are off to view another flat as well tomorrow as his flatmate hates him, she wants to live with a girl.

Sadly I had to work last night and tonight so I am now going for dinner tomorrow night. I am currently thinking I might just hit a Bar Mleczny with 50pln and have a feast!

I normally put off festivities untill the weekend, myself.


Sure, I have gone to milk bars lots of times.
A lot of restuarants in Krakow are over priced for the tourist.
The only thing is, it seems you wish to celebrate your birthday, so perhaps a milk bar is not the best place.
The vegatarian restuarant VEGA is not expensive.

Have you not met a nice Polish girl yet? (get a girl who loves cooking and is good at it)

I have met many a nice Polish girl, but sadly the large bald fellows next to them don't seem to like me too much.

Although possibly a date on the cards tomorrow night now, so will find somewhere nice to eat.

I am not a big "dinner to celebrate" kind of person. More of a "dinner to fill the stomach before going out to celebrate" kind of person...so the milk bars could be an ideal shout.

Has anyone tried the Sioux restaurant in the main square Krakow? We had 2 lovely evenings there, food was good and quite reasonable.

Anyone knows the Aqua e Vino restaurant? Is it truly the best Italian restaurant in Krakow?
