I would like to ask you all about Slovakia.

What do you think of it?.

What is Slovakian/Polish relations like?.

Could you tell us about Slovakian/Polish history, please?.

Any stories about Slovakian travels, customs, traditions would be welcome.

I have been to Slovakia about three times.
But I feel like I have not seen the country, so any recommendations would be welcome.

I live near the Slovakian/Polish boarder and as life goes on I forget to visit, so this is the start to get me over there.

I went to Slovakia last week, Euro zoned and a dismal economy, the Slovakians flock to Poland to by "cheap" produce from IKEA, food is expensive and the town were I stayed was practically empty.

The mountains and rocks are very different from the Polish side.

===========================================

I know this is the Polish cultural section of the forum.
I just thought that Slovakia is a part of Polish culture.
Move it to the appropriate section if needs be.

Becherovka is Czech...sorry to split hairs.

I had a short visit to Slovakia, found it a very pleasant place, probably wouldn't go again though.

Compared to Poland it is more rustic and mountainous. Shops are closed more often than in Poland, meaning Poland not as devote to old school socialistic as this former eastern teritory of Peoples Socialistic Republik of Czechoslovakia. Polish people used to think of SL as cheap place to go ski and buy vodka, now Slovaks come to Poland for shopping deals. Polish people think of them as slightly frumpy and kind of redneckish, but nice once you know them personaly.

Slovakian is similar to Polish.
I was surprised that I could speak to people and understand them.

same here. accomodation prices are pretty high compering to krakow ( for a 2 beds room in one of two bratislavian hostel i paid 240 pln per day (my first and olnly night in bratislava) - sick motherfvckers ). many tourists stay in bratislava when visiting Vienna (only 1 hour drive from Bra ). they know that they are still chaper than austria so they rise prices. old town is nice but nothing special compering to praha, budapest, krakow, wroclaw or gdansk. for me slovakia = great nature anmd if you like skiing very good ski resorts. forget the rest.

oh, and if you dont enjoy commie mentality and consumer service in Poland dont go to Slovakia. its worse.

Well it certainly has plenty of it.

I noticed it does not seem as densely populated as here in Poland.
Also the town planners seem to have put the houses in rows, something that is not common practice here in Poland ;)

There's a coincidence. I've just been invited to give a presentation in Bratislava by some company called Elite Hunting. Anybody know if they're legit?

I went to Tatranska Lomnica a ski resort on the Slovakian side back in January, the hotel was very nice, beer strong, food decent. I found most people incredibly different and far to often rude, even by Polish standards.

The resort was a nice tranquile village type setting, on the snowboarding side it was pretty bad. Massive cues for the one lift to get you up, very limited runs and icy as hell. Even my Burton T6 (best ice board ever made) could not keep a decent grip. Once i crossed the border the next day back into Poland the Polish side had tonnes of snow, should have just went to Zakopane insted.

Slovakia was a strange experience, i can safely say i will never visit again.

Hostel II is better i think. basically the same film but with chicks and a twist!!

Most of it was filmed in the Czech Rep.

We had plans to fly from Brataslav to Kosice, but couldn't be arsed, we only paid £10 for a return flight....we ventured back in to the Czech Rep...
