if you fly then of course you will need a passport, or an European ID card, but you dont have them in UK. so by all means yes.

I am unsure on the legal obligations, but I would think it would be best to travel with a passport.

If you're coming directly from a non-Schengen country (i.e UK), you may need a passport or an ID card, which, if I'm not mistaken, you don't have in UK.
Driving license isn't honoured in such cases, at least not a Polish one, but I guess it's that way with any driving license.

After we entered Schengen you can travel (for now by land only, from March or April also by air) without any documents, IF you're coming from another Schengen-country (coming as movement, not provenience, you may be a citizen/resident of any country, but once you had arrived to one of those European countries that belong to the Schengen treaty, you can cross the borders freely).

If I travel with an American passport from Ireland to Poland, will I go through Polish passport control on arrival in PL? I want to get a PL stamp in my passport!

As far as I know, if both countries are in Schengen, a national identity card should suffice, however aged 15? A child travelling alone does so at the discretion of the carrier, and may well be challenged at the border.

No. You need a national ID card or passport to cross an EU border - while you might not be asked for it, it's a Schengen requirement to actually carry such a document when crossing an internal border.

Of course, you could drive from Sweden to Poland with a low risk of being stopped. As Jonni says however, the carriers might not be too happy to accept a 15 year old. It does depend though - it is possible to do the journey without an ID card or passport, but if you're stopped, you'll find yourself in trouble.

Not just Schengen, but in the whole EU (plus some others), the national identity card is enough in lieu of a passport.
