Moving to Poland/Finished High School in USA/How I Get Into PL College

I am moving to Poland to be with my fiancee. I finished high school and a year of college in the US. I have about 7000 dollars to keep me going until I find a job. I speak, read, and write fluent Polish and have a dual US and Poland citizenship and passports. Once I get there we are moving into a small apartment in downtown Gdynia...I want to go to University of Gdansk...

My question is what do I need to bring to get into studia dzienne at UG? Do I need my transcripts authorized by notaries and the Department of Education or smtin? Will my SAT's be worth anything? And is it possible that I will have to take my matura, and if i do will my geades from high school be counted the same as Polish grades?

Also any advice on my move is appreciated. I love my girl very much, and school in the US isn't what I wanted anyway...

I would contact the university you have chosen and inquire within. Different schools have different regulations. I would get all my transcripts ready in advance, both from highschool and college. Quite frankly, I don't know how this will work. Make necessary phonecalls or go to the website and find more about the issue online.

Now, $7000 is not as much as it might seem, even in Poland. It will get you by for a little while, but you must be realistic. You are practically out of highschool, so in Poland you will have limited choices as far as your employment potential. Now, you haven't chosen the cheapest city to live in. It is not as expensive as the capital, but it is not the cheapest either.

I don't want to come across too negative, but it is going to be a huge move for you and with lots of adjustments ahead. Research the local job market beforehand. And try to determine what it might be that you could do for a living.

You might want to consider "studia zaoczne" if you want to study and work at the same time.

I have already found an apartment in Gdynia for 800zl a month...my fiancee is in school at UG (on her 2nd year of art history) and also has a job as a waiter where she can earn up to 1500zl a month...I have worked in gdynia before as a waiter and I am sure I can get a waiting job that would pay a similar amount...do you think that is enough to get us by? (Plus she has like another 1500 zl saved up).

Also where would be a good place field with a chance for advancement to look for for someone with only a high school degree.

Also don't you have to pay for studia zaoczne?

That would be a "diploma", as high schools in the US do not offer degrees.
I'm not sure how things look in Poland now, but when I left (over 20 years ago) high school diploma was worth lees on the job market in Poland than it is worth in the US today.

I'd say you need to keep moving on with your education, or become a billgates.

I realize everyone will tell me to stay in school (and I am no bill gates) and i appreciate that...still I am going to Poland and need advice...and what is the worst that could happen...seriously :/

Not trying to scare you or dissuade from anything. Whatever you do will be what you want to do. Life is a series of successes and failures. If you learn from the latter then they won't occur as often. Like the other poster, I am offering a doze of reality. If you're up to it then all the power to you.

I think a lot of questions you have can be answered only by the actual school, or even the department where you would like to study. Call or email them.

I agree with all the other forum members. You have to be realistic. Maybe you would consider tutoring on the side (English as a Second Language)? Private classes can be of great help once you establish a few relationships with students.

3000 PLN for 2 people in Gdynia.... I'd say for one person, maybe, but quite tight.

Alriite so from my point of vieew.. I just got done with High school this year. Came back to Poland. B4 I got here I had to take my hs diploma to the notary offices. also it had to be accepted by polish ambassy ( L.A) or wherever is closer for you. then I had to take it and get an apostille. when ya get here youll need to translate it all into polish which will cost you a lot. so you might as well find a polish translator out there and see if its any cheaper. but yeah the best idea is to get a hold of school reps, and find out what you got to do step by step. Oh yeah and, im not sure but since ur already done with the first yr of college, ask about transfers? idk haha

Legal documents must be translated by a sworn translator and the prices are established by the state. You can't get it cheaper.

you can get it cheaper if you do it in the USA although not all that cheap and that's a maybe. look into it.

I am extremly sorry to disturb you all but i am planing to apply in an polish univercity to do BBA i would be thankful if somebody over here can guide me on the issue are there any good universities in Lodz that offer BBA yet at the same time they offer cources in english is that a possibility, another Question is if one wants to transfer from one city to another while he is studying in Lodz can he get a transfer to another university if the need be in some other city in Poland.

Then again would really apreciate the help if some one would be kind enough to do so.

Well UG should be a good bet since you speak Polish. Just apply you should have no problem getting in gl.
