Staying in Poland after Work Permit Expires

Hi All,

I have a question. My husband and I came to Poland about a year ago for work related reasons. My husband had a one year contract that will expire around May of this year. The temp resident card that we have been issued also expires in May.

However, the lease of the apartment we have is not up until August, so is it possible to stay for a month or so, even though the resident card has expired. Both me and my husband are US Citizens, and I know that one can stay in the Country for 3 months as tourists. Can we use that as means of staying further? Like if we leave and re-enter and get 3 mos to stay?

I would really appreciate any feedback relevant to this matter.
Thank you.

My flat mate stayed here for two years, well past when his visa expired, he had no problems flying back after it. Plus you don't even need to leave the country, just tell them you did:)

Apparently you can, as you have 90 days visa-free access to the Schengen zone outside of any visa entitlements. But I'm not certain how this will be seen in reality - you might have to do a border run to get the all-important stamp to show that you've been granted tourist access for the 90 days.

I would suggest going straight to the relevant local authorities to ask. It's simply not worth the penalties if you actually get caught overstaying - a ban from the Schengen zone could happen, and that would make life very awkward in future when trying to travel here.

Thank you all.
We ofcorse want to do the right thing and try extending our permit etc. Does anyone know where exactly to go (Contact number/location) to apply for extensions or temp permits? I would greatly appreciate it.
Tx

You definitely need to leave the Schengen zone.
You can go to the UK or Ukraina for a visit.
When your card will expire you will be here on your own risk.

That is true that usually on the border you should not have any problem but maybe the immigration officer will have a bad day ?
According to law you will be here illegaly.
