Teaching english as a private tutor

Hi, i just finished up high school this year in the US and am thinking of moving to poland to live with family. I hear being an english teacher pays very well and i am considering being a private tutor. Can anyone tell me what to expect: pay? amount of business? etc. thanks

hello Polish ex-pat, And welcome to the Polish forums. You will find a lot of info on this site, try typing in key words in the top right search box, of this page. it is not so easy to land private lessons any more but I have not been a teacher for years, so i am not up to date. There are numerious courses, you can take, C.E.L.T.A and T.E.F.L. etc. some are better than others. Best of luck on your adventure.

There are a lot of threads about teaching English in Poland, read them. It's easier if you have a CELTA or TESOL certificate, and some experience. Polish ex-pat: being an english teacher pays very well It doesn't pay very well. But you can survive on it. As you probably know most people in Poland don't make so much money. How much you can get depends on your qualifications and experience.

Can anyone tell me what to expect: pay? amount of business? etc. thanks There's your age to consider - among Polish people that I know, none of them would take a teacher who hasn't finished university or is at least slightly older. Judging by your 'just finished high school' comment - you'll likely find that people will look at you as just being too young. Perhaps you might find a niche teaching children - but this is very demanding. Do you speak the language?

yes im also a citizen. what about the taxes involving a self employed person? are they much more significant than being an employee?

I'm not so convinced that he'll find a job in a school - he's just too young to be taken seriously. When you consider that most schools are dealing with adults, it's going to be very hard for him to be taken as credible, especially without a degree and any teaching experience.
