Archives- I really need your help folks

OK , my cousin is going again to Poland in May, she is going on trip to Lomza
and she is going to try to locate some Older records.., my question is, what
is her best option, and i thought the archives was in another town for that
area. she asked me for some help. I never been to Poland to locate records
so i dont really know what advice..

which direction to send her... any other thoughts/hints..

What kind of records ??

People always say the church has birth christening and marriage records maybe start there.

well, thats just it.. we know baptismals are avail, and marriages, deaths.
what else would be useful to get further in research..



she will be able to get that I am sure.. the further back we get the harder
the records seem to be.. 1808 and up we have , prior to that what is avail
that would be of significance, because records get harder to find.. this is
what I am asking.. what should she look for that might lead to more records..

in the united states we have cencus which help us get further back, and war
records etc.. thats what I am asking.. with poland I am not sure.. so any
help would be sooooooooooo appreciated..

Unusual records. A persons Will, property records, school records.

Have her make a list of addresses and then take loads of photos.

An aside. At the weekend I bumped into someone who'd flown from LA to take a photo of the family home. Unfortunately it had been built over many years ago. I sort of shared her sorrow.

The Polish National Archive website has pages in English.

property records.. I wonder if they have examples of those like they do births
deaths and marriages.. online.. hmmm..

history recorded did have to do with uprisings ( one of our family was involved)
and I wonder if they have books on this and where.. oops i mean with peoples
names in them of all those who were sent to siberia etc..

the confessions part ought to be a good source.. not wanting to dig out
the skeltons, but this is really actually a good source of information.. it helps
alot even if its not what we want to find.

converts (konwertyci), Familienbuch (księga rodzin), marriages (małżeństwa), mixed (mieszane), divorces (rozwody), confessions (spowiadający się), births (urodzenia), change of creed (wstąpienia do obrządku), change of creed (wystąpienia z obrządku), banns (zapowiedzi), deaths (zgony), dates border ...

but that is not always the case. voyvodship has those or the hospital if one was born in one.

gmina.. do you know where they were from? people in that village may know.

All new to me. All my research so far has been in the UK. I just try to apply what I know from the UK records to Polish records. Much of it seems to be similar.

isthatu might be able to help with regard to the uprising.

Check a few military websites for additional help.

If you try to track your family further back then 1800~ it will be kinda hard becuse of all the wars in Poland especially if you come from a normal family by that i mean not from a noble family. threw the wars aloot of churches burnt down along with the archives and it was often there were they stored the Public archives.

I know.. thats what really makes me think that even the last record to connect
four men might not exist anymore.. but I want to think positive for now.. :)

not sure on the noble part.. we married nobility.. but of course that was
stripped from them..

I know one of my GG grandfathers was a buerger ( owned land) collected money
like a landlord type.. I guess.. not sure if I said that correctly..

Consription records may be available. Each man had to serve in the military for the occupying country. Russians, Austrians, Prussians kept good records. Just need to know which partition the realtives were from. Often they list other family members.

the town they lived was Nowogrod near lomza.

Where would these be found, or where would you inquire about them, please?

I spoke to my relatives in Poland about this matter and they told me that the best way would be that you conact an agent that will help you research, i think you can contact the Polish embassy and they will find you a agent. I dont know how much it would cost but i dont think it would not be so much if you compare your sallary to the polish one.
