as time goes by... (kind of strange request)

so i want to write this, and yes its pretty weird. thanks for your help, this is something that i don't think it would be cute to mess up on.



"as time goes on i'm starting to feel that we should not be so sad. Mountain baby's life will not be wasted, and this memory we've shared between us will be much too precious to forget. this will just prove we can get through anything... with you even the most tragic experiences are beautiful. "

I could do it if I knew what 'mountain baby' is. And I don't think I would mess up on it (I'm a Polish native speaker and I study literary translation)

This is not literal translation. I changed 'forget' into sth. like 'sink into oblivion' because in a literal one, I'd have to repeat words with the same root, which in Polish counts as a stylistic mistake. And there are some other minute changes for the sake of style.

W miarę upływu czasu zaczynam czuć, że nie powinniśmy tak się smucić. Życie [mountain baby] się nie zmarnuje, a nasze wspólne wspomnienie będzie zbyt cenne, by odeszło w niepamięć. To tylko udowodni, że potrafimy przetrwać wszystko... Z Tobą nawet najtragiczniejsze doświadczenia są piękne.

haha oh i meant when i try my sloppy translations!!! not from you guys sorry! I'm trying to learn polish but this situation is a little different...I didn't mean to sound rude at all

I think style change is great! I want it to make sense of course which is why i didn't really attempt write it.

'mountain baby' was a nickname we called our baby before i had a miscarriage so i don't know what that would be in polish.. Górskie dziecko probably?

I often see crappy translations on this forum, and I'm sure they're made by translators not too fluent in Polish. But I see this is something important, so I wanted to assure you I really know what I'm doing.

Górskie Dziecko is OK. I didn't know if it should be "dziecko z gór" or "górskie dziecko" because if it was some strange baby to whom something happened in the mountains, then, I'd rather say "dziecko z gór".

So, it should be:
Życie Górskiego Dziecka się nie zmarnuje[...]

drama....


ok, in English it sounds good, but translated into Polish looses sense...

if you BOTH were using the English expression, then there's no need to translate it, just like first names or surnames.
Unless "we called" refers to you and some other man/people, not to the one you're writing to.

yeah thats what i ended up doing, it just sounded much more natural to me that way.




I don't know about it being melodramatic as I'm just trying to comfort him. Even if it sounds a little strange, i think he still enjoys hearing it in his own language then in mine.

góralskie - góral/ka

Góralskie means: highlander (as determiner) and góral or góralka means a highlander (person).

That's what I was talking about people who don't speak Polish well and try to translate.
