I love it how McCain was tortured by communists, and Obama's best friend is the terrorist Bill Ayers.

dcchris:
What I find humorous about the whole election is that americans think that their vote counts. It doesnt.

How about Europe? You can vote for anybody and no matter who would won realized policy will be the same.

dcchris:
Obama may be good for racial relations inside America

It is not good as long the race is still an issue. This is fault of both, racists and multiculturalists (this is specific form of 'racism'). Only competences should be important.

This is not any merit that would automatically qualify him to be good candidate to presidency.

That may be true most of the time, here in the US and there in Europe, but there is just enough deviation from the norm to give a person hope that the next election might produce a good government.

I agree with you 100% there. I could have cared less what Clinton did in his personal life as long as helped the country...and I think he did more good than harm. That's about all I can hope for!

As for the electoral college thing mentioned by someone else a few posts back....there is a movement now to improve voting technology across the country to avoid error in tabulating the popular vote. I don't know if it will impact this election....

Obama plans on launching a 800 trillian dollar tax plan to help the lesser privilaged nations.
Obama's constantly talking about color. With blacks, they should vote for him because he is black. Anything they don't like is racist against him. "

Because from his personal perspective it may be a good tactic. Even if he would not be elected president, he could be a long time congressman or senator without having much to offer. Blacks would vote for him just because he is black ('political victim of the whites').

Isn't Obama's mother white? He's mixed race but I think he tends to forget this!

I don't know about his mother, however politicians tend to have very selective memory! :)

He's mixed....there is even some german in him

A true representation of the melting pot that is America, Barack Obama owes his German roots to his great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, Christian Gutknecht, who left Germany for the New World in 1749, Germany weekly newspaper Die Zeit reported on Friday.

When his name was translated into English, Gutknecht (which means “good serf”) leapt through the ranks to become Mr. Goodknight. Eventually, the silent “k” was dropped and he went by the name of Goodnight. Die Zeit speculates that this distant relative of Obama's likely lived as a farmer in Pennsylvania, where he would have experienced the American Revolution and the founding of the United States. He died on December 26, 1795 – appropriately – in Germantown.

From there, it's just a journey over six generations from Virginia via Indiana to Kansas, before you get to the birth of Obama's mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, in 1942. And that, says genealogist William Addams Reitwiesner, makes the Democratic presidential candidate almost 5 percent German.

While this could go a long way in explaining Obama's popularity in Germany, the paper says it could also be the key to his success at home, where researchers say the candidate would do well to “embrace protestant German values.” After all, every third American has German ancestors, and Obama's home state of Illinois still reflects the German background of many of its settlers.

I think everyone knows that Congress would NEVER approve that...the number is undoable!
Whoever becomes President already inherits the largest deficit in the history of the US.

URL

The official said the deficit was being driven to an all-time high by the sagging economy and the stimulus payments being made to 130 million households in an effort to keep the country from falling into a deep recession. A deficit approaching $490 billion would easily surpass the record deficit of $413 billion set in 2004.

So far I can't tell that those stimulus checks did on ounce of good for the economy....not even enough to offset the price of fuel!

His father is Kenyan. I happened to be in the town where his grandmother still lives at the time he won the race against Clinton. It was crazy, the entire international media circus descended on this poor womans farm and were filming her milking he cows etc... She is now having to hire 24 hr security to keep them away. A lot of Luos (the tribe to which he belongs) now beleive that they will easily get visas to the USA if he becomes President. Anyway, all over Africa people are claiming Obama as their own.

OBAMA DISSECTED LET ME SEE IF I HAVE THIS STRAIGHT: HIS FATHER WAS A KENYAN, MOSLEM, BLACK. WE HAVE SEEN PICTURES OFHIS 'AFRICAN FAMILY'. HIS MOTHER IS A KANSAN, ATHIEST, WHITE. WHERE ARE THE PICTURES OF HIS KANSAN WHITE MOTHER AND THE WHITEGRANDPARENTS WHO RAISED HIM? HIS FATHER DESERTED HIS MOTHER AND HIM WHEN HE WAS VERY YOUNGAND THE FATHER WENT BACK TO HIS OTHER FAMILY IN KENYA. HIS MOTHER MARRIED AN INDONESIAN MUSLIM AND TOOK HIM TO JAKARTAWHERE HE WAS SCHOOLED IN A MUSLIM SCHOOL. HIS MOTHER RETURNED TO HAWAII AND HE WAS RAISED BY HIS WHITEKANSAN GRANDPARENTS. HE LATER WENT TO THE BEST HIGH DOLLAR SCHOOLS! HOW? HE LIVES IN A $1.4 MILLION DOLLAR HOUSE THAT HE ACQUIRED THROUGHA DEAL WITH A WEALTHY FUND RAISER! HOW? HE 'WORKED' AS A CIVIL RIGHTS ACTIVIST IN CHICAGO- HAS NEVERHELD A PRODUCTIVE JOB. THE PRESIDENCY IS NOT A CIVIL RIGHTS POST NOR IS ITSUBJECT TO AFFIRMATIVE ACTION SET ASIDES! HE ENTERED POLITICS AT THE STATE LEVEL AND THEN THE NATIONALLEVEL WHERE HE HAS MINIMAL EXPERIENCE! HE IS PROUD OF HIS 'AFRICAN HERITAGE' BUT IT SEEMS THAT HIS ONLYAFRICAN CONNECTION WAS THAT HIS AFRICAN FATHER GOT A WHITE GIRL PREGNANT ANDDESERTED HER. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT SPERM CARRIED A 'CULTURAL' GENE. WHEREIS THE PRIDE IN HIS WHITE CULTURE? HE GOES TO AN 'AFROCENTRIC' CHURCH THAT HATES WHITES, HATESJEWS, AND BLAMES AMERICA FOR ALL THE WORLDS PERCEIVED FAULTS AND THENREPEATEDLY COVERS UP FOR THE PASTOR AND THE CHURCH. HE CLAIMS THAT HE COULD NOT CONFRONT HIS PASTOR BUT HE WANTS USTO BELIEVE THAT HE CAN CONFRONT NORTH KOREA AND IRAN, RIGHT!!! YEAH, I THINK I SEE HOW HE COULD BE A UNITER AND BRING USTOGETHER, I THINK THE HOPE IS THAT HE HOPES NO ONE WILL PUT THE PIECESTOGETHER. ONE ALSO WONDERS WHERE ALL HIS MONEY HAS COME FROM. AFTER ONLY ASHORT TIME IN ILLINOIS POLITICS AND ONE TERM AS A US SENATOR, HOW CAN HEAFFORD HIS EXPENSIVE LIFE-STYLE? MAYBE HE GOT ONE OF THOSE SUB-PRIMEMORTGAGE LOANS.

Yes, Obama's mother is white. Technically speaking he is not black nor is he white...he is of mixed ancestory. We tend to look at skin color as a basis for stating what someone is, but here in America it was even a law in some states that if you had a drop of black blood in you...you were black. That was to keep the white race pure. Obama grew up during this time...he is in his 40's and probably was called and considered himself black, but you are seeing a change that has come along with people like Mariah Carey and Tiger Woods who truly don't consider themselves either one. The mindset had started to change when they came along. So, they consider themselves of mixed ancestory.

Yes, Obama can bring change: higher taxes, a worse economy, and leaving the Iraqis in chaos.

Higher taxes should lead to improved public service provision which, arguably, America needs. Leaving the Iraqis in chaos, how dare you pin that on Obama?!!! He will inherit this predicament from Shrubco. A worse economy, go back to school lad as you are clearly lacking in understanding.

I am just surprised at the lack of general knowledge of most of the American posters in regards to US elections.

It is actually quite scary.

I lack understanding?

If you know ANYTHING about economics you know that in times like these when we are facing high inflation and a possible recession, we need to take radical action. We need to cut taxes and deregulate business to stimulate the economy.

Instead, what does Obama support?
1. Higher taxes - which will burden the average family and reduce consumption and saving.
2. Progressive capital gains and corporate taxes - even though both reduce investment and chase away businesses and jobs to foreign countries.
3. Renegotiation of our free trade agreements - even though exports have been the only sector of the economy that has grown.
4. Windfall profits taxes on oil companies - even though oil companies are using those profits to reinvest in oil fields and oil refineries to bring oil costs down.
5. Tariffs on foreign alternative fuels, even though that will increase the cost of ethanol and other biofuels at home.

Obama is going to ruin this country's economy and his choice to pull out of Iraq is a bad one as well. Did Bush mess it up? Yeah, we only should've been there two years tops. But now somebody has to clean it up and Obama won't do it.

Yes, you are right. But what choice did we have between Bush and Al Gore?..I voted for Bush out of protest against Al Gore.. I knew then that Bush was an Idiot.. But anybody was better than Gore..

I am surprised that Bush beat Kerry at the next election..But there was no way that I could vote for him again..As far as I was concerned Kerry was a nothing.. I sat that election out.

So where does that leave us..LIMBO. Again we have no credible choice..

It matters not which party that I vote for..I owe no allegiance
to any party.

Well spoken Franek, this has been a dilemma for many Americans, the old lesser of 2 evils. America needs a fundamental redefinition of what is 'national interest'. It needs to eke out the best of what it has and not go raiding into foreign countries. Iran has abundant natural resources but that is no reason to invade.

KK, u need to ask Barack why he is doing that. The man is smart and is willing to enter into debate, go find out.

Seanus;

There is no way that I could vote for Obama.. You have to live in America to undertand what I am talking about.. Americans are rethinking their earlier choice.. McCain is now in the lead.
The more Americans that I talk too are switching back.. Not because they are Republicans, but it is the lesser of both evil's..
I dont know what the outcome will be..But whatever. America will survive. Wish us luck.

The recession is the result of the Fed keeping rates too low for too long and thus blowing up a huge bubble in the housing market and capital goods industry. Just like the 2001 recession caused by Alan Greenspan, we're in a similar situation.

The man is smart and is willing to enter into debate

Which is why he won't enter into the townhall debates with McCain, right?
