There is an election reform movement in the US.
My state is actively pursuing it. If we could get enough people to support this movement, we could be free from lobbyists to "buy" the candidates they think can do the most for them. It would aslo level the playing field in terms of money going into campaigns so that a person of modest means could compete against the millionaire.

Check it out publicampaign

Clean Elections is a practical, proven reform that puts voters in control of elections. Rather than being forced to rely on special interest donors to pay for their campaigns, candidates have the opportunity to qualify for full public funding which ends their reliance on special interest campaign cash. Being freed from the money chase means they have more time to spend with constituents, talking about issues that matter to them. When they enter office, they can consider legislation on the merits, without worrying about whether they are pleasing well heeled donors and lobbyists.

In the U.S. Congress, Sens. Dick Durbin (D_IL) and Arlen Specter (R_PA) have introduced the Fair Elections Now Act which provide full public financing for Senate candidates. A companion bill in the House is also expected soon. Clean Elections is law in seven states and two cities: Arizona; Connecticut; Maine; New Jersey; New Mexico; North Carolina; Vermont; Albuquerque, New Mexico; and Portland, Oregon. Activists in 28 states are working to advance full public financing.

Hillary Clinton was on T.V. last night saying that Mc Cain would make a better president because he has the experience and all Obama has is a speech..lol

If the Democrats expect to win this election one would think that they would stop fighting amongst eachother???
I cant wait to see what happens at the DNC when all her delegates walk out.

Paris Hilton mocks McCain:

After McCain (or the "old, wrinkly guy") used Paris in his anti-Obama commertials, Hilton stroke back with this! Pretty funny!

Piorun:

Those of you who think that things will change when Obama takes over think again. What makes you so sure? The victory of the Democratic Party in the 2006 congressional elections did not change a thing. The senate is made up of 49 democrats, 49 republicans and two Independents Lieberman, Conn and Sanders, Vt. who caucus with the democrats and for the most part vote with republicans. In the House, there are currently 233 democrats and 202 republicans, the governors 28 democrats and 22 republicans. Neither House nor Congress is capable of or even willing to criticize administration of bad policy be it on domestic front or foreign policy. If you check how each member of congress or house voted over key issues you will not see the difference between the democrat and republican. Whoever wins the next election will not change a thing. Sure there will be a lot of discussions, debates and excuses but overall things will remain as they are. Those of you who put so much hope in Obama will be greatly disappointed and voting for McCain will yield the same. This is politics and it’s above one man, one office or even one party.

i couldnt of said it better myself

Obama The Patriot - Removes American Flag From His Plane

The Patriot Room
Posted on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 8:11:07 AM by Bill Dupray

Barack Obama recently finished a $500,000 total overhaul of his 757. And as part of the new design, he decided to remove the American flag from the tail...
What American running for President of the United States would remove the symbol of his country? And worse, he replaced the flag with it with a symbol of himself

What does being from Chicago have anything to do with predicting what Obama is gonna do?
marek s:

because people like to believe their choice is better.

OK, I grant them that. They need to believe in their choices.
marek s:

who?

Franek, then you prove my point that Americans rather pull the chain that actually start to get involved in what is going on in their country. I had a different impression and I though that you hated Obama. So you were just talking sh!t then.

For me it doesn't matter but I am here, not there.

Its good that another fellow Chicagoan can point this out to a "Foreigner"
Foreigners seem to think that obama will be soo different when in fact they dont even know his past record.

But that is pretty typical of all politicians.....they all have some skeletons in the closet. Regan had the Iran Contra thing, Clinton had Whitewater, the Bush family has close ties to the Bin Laden family.

I don't think he is gonna be different. Besides, most of US politicians has something to hide, don't they.
marek s:

yah, but it is so typical of US elections in general. For me (da foreigner) it is actually quite interesting to watch how people in the states get entangled in it.

totally agreed. any stance that might of affected him vote wise, he wouldnt even vote on the matter, he would just vote present

yes they do, but when their whole campaign is about change, its rather hypocritical. the even funnier thing is people believe them

miranda:

still your not local and dont have a clue with whats going on here in chicago just like we dont about canada

so what. If I had other nationalities interested in Canadian affair I would appreciate it and so far I was called a stupid foreigner who knows nothing. Which, btw is not true. The average Canadian knows more about the world including US than the average American, so it would not be a bad idea if we could vote;), since you guys are not doing the best job. LOL

But that is not even the point of this discussion. It just seems that Americans cannot see why Obama is so popular in outside of US. But he is, even it is for wrong reasons.

don't be funny Marek, we have no infidels here to a degree that would effect the American politics. LOL.

no, it is not true. Typical Canadian is not know it all. Have you met any?
I think you are paranoid about foreigners.

One cannot have a discussion with Americans because they just start speaking in stereotypes.

I think that you are just confused about who to vote for because your political system is very corrupted.
