I know there is lots of useful info on this web site but any thoughts on a good cd/book to purchase. Really should go to evening classes but cannot find the time. Not enough hours in the day.
Wondered if there was a course worth purchasing that I could play on the pc or in the car.

We have had this question several times before. There are various books such as teach Yourself and the Colloquial Polish Course by B.W. Mazur. The best courses are the old ones, now sadly long out of print. The old Linguaphone Polish Course, was also a very good course, if you can get hold of a copy, try e-bay.

You will find a good course here as a free download. pdf documents and sounds recordings:
h t t p://polish.slavic.pitt.edu/

Also, there are a lot of other resources online, many of them free which you might find useful. Try the PF PL links thread:

Do I assume you watched the prgramme !
I thought it was the best programme yet and depicted
Poland as a very nice country to visit but I am biased as
I go there about five times a year.

Depending on where you live, if you live in a large city, you may find your local city library has a good selection of courses with tapes that you may be able to take out on loan. The trouble is, of course, you will always have to take them back! A three week loan period to read a noval is all very well but when you are trying to learn a language...?

RosettaStone is a good starter course. It's Polish through Polish with pictures. It'll give you a reasonably good basic vocabulary and get you started on the cases.
