The best place to buy a house in the UK

If I were to go back to mum I'd be type 7.

Are they talking about where I live or somewhere in inner-city Glasgow?
They don't even sell the Daily Record in my local newsagent.

I put mine in and got:



It's mostly couples living in bought flats of a decent size, up to four bedrooms (most with gardens). Its an old area with hardly any rentals so my overall feeling is this website makes a lot up! :)

In my street every second house is a holiday home. Its all 200 year old cottages. Both my neighbours are in their 60s. Its featured on a lot of postcards.

Not quite high rise hell !

It seems to say the same for a lot of people.
I went further and checked out the ACORN site.

I wasn't entirely sure what all that means, so checked out
the post-code of a very close relative:
1 Wealthy Achievers
A Wealthy Executives
2 Affluent working families with mortgages
I'm still not much wiser having read that. Probably because I have a low level of education and am a single mother in a council falt.

I think the person who compiled the list failed to actually visit any of the places. I put in a postcode of an area here which would fall under high-rise hell and I got the exact same wording as I got for my own postcode!

My advice for moving to the UK is to pick a city or town you might want to move to and trawl the Internet for properties in the area and do a price comparision and then find out more about the area and then visit the area. It's very difficult to move here if you don't know the country Isska, you'll have to do a lot of research. If you drive and have a car you'll have bigger options.

Some people like the architectural style they call 'Urban Brutalism', as seen in lovely towns like Hull and Cumbernauld.

That's as maybe, but I still find it hard to believe how you all can have a nice fluffy discussion about house prices whilst someone is being so deliberate in their attempts to stir things up.

If it happens as frequent as you imply, szkotja2007, then maybe some of the users should be warned or banned.

So I'm still not convinced about these websites. Inner City is not what this area is described as - for example, behind my street, field, golf course, hills. Five minute walk from river, parks, sports ground...

A conspiracy theory has been aired before about how such inflammatory posts are tolerated or even encouraged because they are good for web traffic.

But really, where I live is not well off, but it's quite a nice place to live. Honest.

Stir things up? I merely described my community. Like it or not, it's the community I live in and it is highly suspicious of non whites. Non whites don't settle here. Alot of people that know Kirkham & Wesham will tell you it's not a suitable place for Asians or blacks to LIVE. Even Asians in Preston will tell you. Visit, yes ok but not to live.

It's a perfect community for a white person, but non-whites won't feel welcome. There have been a few blacks that moved here but moved out within months. They come and go.

Your choice of words is inflammatory.

Your town may have a great record on crime etc but it is still everything that is wrong with this country, just in the same way that an open door policy on immigration is also. They are just opposite ends of the spectrum, but both deadly and damaging.

Well I beg to differ.

Yes there are many "white" areas in the UK, but it doesn't have to be made into a selling point.

"Arise St George" wasn't casually talking about the, shall we say "lack of diversity", in the town he lives in, he was turning it around to make the point that, as he sees it, this is the main reason why crime levels are low. He was making a direct link between race and things like levels of crime.

Many things cause crime, it's not as simple as skin colour.

Stir things up? I wouldn't want the poor sole to move to this community if she's non-white. Nothing stirring about it. There's only you whining. If I wanted to **** stir I could and I'd have more than just you.
There's nothing wrong with this community. I've lived in Nottingham for the past 8 yrs and have found alot of flaws within the black and Asian community which is exactly why I understand how the community feels. We don't want drugs, burglary, violence, rape, abuse etc here. This is a peaceful community and a beautiful place to bring up your children. Despite the community being a very safe community there are a handful of policemen knocking about at nights to keep the community a safe place to live.

PolskaDoll ,You asked me where I live..Well...I live in Northern Ireland(near Belfast) and I really don't like this place. I've been here two yeras ,previously I used to live in London,but London was too expensive for us.My husband got good offer job here and we moved here,but now we would like come back to England,buy some house and stay for good.

Yup....NI has just as many yucky places to live in as anywhere, though Catholic Polish migrants in the wrong areas...have been victims of quite a few sectarian attacks, sad but true in 2008.

You could try somewhere close to Lincoln. There is a large established Polish community here, housing is reasonably cheap and the location is good for the countryside/coast/EMA.

Make sure you don't live near rivers or near the coast! You don't want your house to be flooded when the tide rises or the river banks break!

The West Midlands has recently been nominated as one of the cheapest places in the UK for housing (in the suburbs, not in Birmingham city centre). There is also a large and steadily growing Polish community. Avoid London at all costs unless you have lots and lots of money. To give you some idea of the difference, you can buy a 3-4 bedroom house with a garden in parts of the midlands for the same price as a studio flat in a dodgy part of London. You may end up as a single mother working in a factory and adopt a dodgy accent that just about everyone in the UK hates, but surely thats a small price to pay for cheap housing.

Just one more thing, make sure your new area has no council estates for the sake of you and your child. Don't let your kid mix with scum. There are many decent villages and towns in the UK but it's just finding them. Don't make the wrong move. Birmingham is the wrong the move, so is Nottingham, so is Manchester and so is London. Keep away from big cities.

Now Im going to call you a twat for that comment, since you seem to think that all people that come off council estates are scum. What you might be forgetting is that a vast majority of council houses were purchased by hard working "working class" people which in turn have been sold on in recent years to people who could no longer aford to buy on private estates.

I would suggest to the lady who is looking to buy over in the UK, look at the school ratings, if you are looking to start a family then good schools are important and its even more important to be in a good catchment area, this in general gives a good indication to the area you are buying in.

As for Kirkham there is a dirty great big open air prison there so you are more likely to get some scum bag escaping and robbing your house....
