BEWARE when coming over UK

I live in UK all my life and I want to warned people what I seen in the newspaper and TV regarding Polish people coming over here for a better life but the harsh reality is that if you don't know people who are over here or you don't speak good english you will end up in the street with no money or food. The type of work over here you could be doing is cleaning, building work or bar work which other people don't want do as it does not pay enough money to live here as it is expensive living here especially in London. In the newspaper today a polish ecomonist commited suicide who leaves a wife and child and on TV I see polish people living on the street. Please don't believe everyone who says you make a great living over here, you could but you have to be lucky and fortunate. I wanted to put this on the forum please pass on to others to beware.

More and more propaganda .

A lot of what quest 1 has stated is true, a lot of poles return home faster than than have come because they have been unable to secure employment and cost of living is so expensive.....tell me bolo please explain yourself,, what do you mean more and more propaganda?

I mean - there have been a few topics started by one or more people here that "advised" Poles to stay in Poland and not to even think of going abroad to take jobs from the native citizens.

I think the advise given is very good and honest...a lot of poles have found work (most exploited) but quite a few have to return home penniless.

How do you know most are exploited? I have worked with many Polish who get the same pay and conditions as British people.If it was so bad they would not keep coming.Many UK schools are now having problems with the sudden influx of Polish children because they were not prepared.
Talking to Polish people some have been exploited - often by other Polish people.
If you just turn up in another country with no job and no language skills you will find it difficult-but even many of these people find jobs far better than they ever had in Poland.It depends on the person and can be applied to most countries in the world.

Oh right...because there are no british people living on the streets and how did you actually know they were Polish??? you know the big difference between Czech, Slavakian and Polish LANGUAGE then???

i don't feel sorry for the polish people who came here and had to go back penniless to poland.this is a free job market here in the uk and if someones skiils are not needed here or they haven't got any they shouldn't be cried for.i find disguisting what job agencies are doing at the moment.they take virtually everyone on the board without proper checking a few things like:if they have an experience for the jobs they r offered,if they can speak even a few words in english so that they can do simple things on their own ie.if they are thretened,exploited,can they report it to the police?if their behavior and personal hygiene is up to standards.my company is quite ok in this matter.most of the polish people broutght in here from agencies are young, skilled and hard working but a few times i saw a few smelly DRUNKS who were allowed to work in food industry.unfortunately this kind of people are most likely to stay in mindes of some english poeple and there you go that's the picture of the whole society so i'd rather see them go back to poland.
so i think that some kind of natural selection is good for everyone.everyone should be given a chance but for their own risk

a good rounded view from a Polish person - fortunately I haven't met any of the undesirables that you have mentioned - the Polish people I have met are exceptionally well mannered and their hygiene was in keeping with their manners.

yep.the majority of the polish guys who i meat were ok but u always get a few who can spoil an overall impression.this is the only thing which wories me. but let's be positve

I know what you mean, but there are so many polish in England that you will always find a few "black sheep"
I never worked with polish people here but when I moved to England my first job was in a shop and few english guys working with food were quite...unpleasant and not very clean.
So it is everywhere.

I don't think that polish are exploited here. I am not at all. In my company I have exactly the same opportunity for promotion like everyone else.

Local workers are expoited too.......unless you know your rights, and have good English, it can and does happen, fortunately its relatively rare; especially if you join a union in those areas where its more common, ie catering/building, its a form of insurance!!

Having said that am sure the Soviet system expoited more than a few Polish people and I am sure in Poland, were jobs are hard to come by, Polish people are exploited too!!

After all.....are 160000 Polish people in Ireland all wrong and 400000 in the UK?

Although I am English I certainly can detect the Polish language instantly as I have been married to a Pole for 27 years and I have to say they have to be very lucky indeed to find work etc here unless they have family, friends or business connections here.
I am astounded by the fact that wherever I go recently I seem to hear people talking in Polish.
In July I moved from a little town just on the edge of London where one saw very few foreigners, but before I left I even heard the Polish language on my little out of town bus which amazed me.
I now live in the East Midlands and here they are everywhere.
I have no objection to the Poles as I know the majority are good hard working down to earth people. However, I simply cannot understand why on earth they want to come here as it is so terribly expensive living in Britain now. How on earth can they pay for rent, council taxes which are horrendeous and food which is so much more costly than in Poland ?
Perhaps Poland has become far more expensive now (I haven't been there for about 8 years) but when I was last there I bought loads of stuff to take home as it was so cheap.

And to answer your first question, why are the Poles coming to the UK, let me just give you a hint: in Poland you can exchange one pound for almost six zlotych. And even when you take under your consideration the costs of living in England, which are really high in comparison to those in Poland, it's still profitable to go there.

A POLISH married mum sobbed as she told a jury how she was forced to have sex after being promised bar work in England.
The 27-year-old woman had flown to England months earlier with a woman friend to earn money to improve their life, Leeds Crown Court was told.
But they were then allegedly both forced to work as sex slaves in a brothel in a parade of shops in Town Street, Armley, Leeds.
Grzegorz Szydlowski allegedly conned the women into believing they would be doing honest work.
But, claimed the prosecution, his intention was always to make them work as prostitutes.

"He collected them from Liverpool airport last June and set them up in a flat in Leeds – providing food and accommodation," said Richard Woolfall, prosecuting.
"He then threatened them and used violence to make them work in the brothel in Armley and made them pay him £200 a week. He also took other money from them when he could find it."
The two victims, the court heard, were reliant on him and afraid of him said Mr Woolfall who added: "He controlled them and they were so frightened they did as he wanted."
When they were driven to the flat in Longroyd Avenue, Beeston, Leeds, another Polish man was present.
The mum, who can't be named for legal reasons, said Szydlowski's friend forced her into having sex five times during her stay at the flat.
Giving evidence through an interpreter, the woman broke down saying: "He knew I wasn't consenting. I tried to stop him but he was a big man, heavily built. I couldn't do a lot."
Denial
Szydlowski, 25, has denied two offences of bringing the women to the UK for sexual exploitation between May and June this year.
He has also pleaded not guilty to two further offences of intentionally arranging them to work as prostitutes.
The woman managed to contact her husband in Poland – who had agreed she would have a better chance of earning money if she went to England – and she told him she and her friend had been beaten and threatened into working in the brothel.
Police became involved and when Szydlowski was interviewed after his arrest he claimed the women wanted to work as masseurs because they had done it before.
He also said he was never aggressive towards the women or threatened them.

There is an element of truth in what the original poster said.

I meant the first post warning Poles about possible dangers in the UK.

Another thing I would add, Polish people often behave quite loudly when out together in a group and may attract muggers or just other men out for a fight etc.
Some British men will see them as a threat whether it's to do with jobs, women or just believing the constant barrage of Anti-immigrant talk in the press.

Well no 30% of albanians are religious and there is a mix of Christian ,Greek orthodox and Muslim people there.
