Hi there music...........your right in your way of thinking.

Just got back from Poland recently met with family there......everything seemed to be half price of UK. This is good as a visitor, your food and accomodation is cheep.

If your Polish on Polish income to visit other european countries It becomes expensive to them because everything is twice as dear.

This is why imigrant workers with familyto suport in the homeland often have to houseshare and often share rooms.

It's only the case with a house share here I suppose, years ago I lived with my b/f at the time in the house (3 bedroomed flat) were two other couples...Its nothing new - it was like the Waltons of a night and sunday roast...lol its taken me years to stop making enough to feed an army!

So really a polish person can get money here that is worth of more value there ,
But surely in a round about way it really cant be much fun having to go through the hassle of sleeping in places with loads of other people etc .I guess it depends on how much you want money ??? I dont think i could do it
If it cheap im looking forward to my visit next weekend

music I agree with that generally.
I'm hoping to pay my mortgage off and move to a cheaper (poorer, more exploited?) country, then live a simple life doing work part time..

It has to happen.......You join the EU. and prices gradualy increase in order to be on the same level as the rest of europe. Hopefully income for the wage earners will rise too.

That being the case Polish people will not find west europe so expensive.

Today a polish neighbor asked me to help him with a letter he received from Social security office. I was bit surprised to find that this (polish) guy applied for benefit but was rejected by the authority.

What a loophole. He own a brand new BMW car and lovely house but still wanted to claim benefit.

His three child even getting FREE meals from school.. I'm the only one outside his family knows all about him.

I'm totally against it but only reason i'm not reporting is because i treat all his children as my own sister & brother

Thats the problem, everything is more and more expensive especially prices of flats are out of this world and wages are still the same...... Polish society is poorer because of this

The BNP are a dangerous nasty bunch who with their nationalistic ideals are vastly becoming an attractive alternative to the three major political parties with their stance on immigration etc........this is a very dangerous thing..they shield themselves in modest respectability whilst hiding a core of evil...they are simply political thugs and will never get in power....no one in England is 100% true british anyway and their manifesto is a catologue of contradictory policies....lets say they got in power...what are they going to do with all the afro carribean people who have lived here for 50/60 years....send them home?????
i know a lot of brits are fed up with immigration and stuff but voting BNP really is a vote for pure evil and hatred

What a complete idiot.

Yeah, what has the EU ever done for us?
Enter Monty Python:

FRANCIS: We're gettin' in through the underground trian tunnel system here, up through into the main continental shelf here, into Brussels and the EU commisioner's wife's bedroom. Having grabbed his wife, we inform the EU that she is in our custody and forthwith issue our demands. Any questions?
COMMANDO XERXES: What exactly are the demands?
REG: We're giving the EU two days to dismantle the entire apparatus of the European Federalist State, and if they don't agree immediately, we execute her.
MATTHIAS: Cut her head off?
FRANCIS: Cut all her bits off. Send 'em back on the hour every hour. Show them we're not to be trifled with.
REG: And of course, we point out that they bear full responsibility when we chop her up, and that we shall not submit to blackmail!
COMMANDOS: No blackmail!
REG: They've bled us white, the bastards. They've let all these foreigners in and let them take everything we had, and not just from us, from our fathers, and from our fathers' fathers.
LORETTA: And from our fathers' fathers' fathers.
REG: Yeah.
LORETTA: And from our fathers' fathers' fathers' fathers.
REG: Yeah. All right, Stan. Don't labour the point. And what have they ever given us in return?!
XERXES: The Free Trade Area?
REG: What?
XERXES: The Free Trade Area.
REG: Oh. Yeah, yeah. They did give us that. Uh, that's true. Yeah.
COMMANDO #3: And the Peace.
LORETTA: Oh, yeah, the Peace, Reg. Remember what Europe used to be like? All that fighting and killing each other.
REG: Yeah. All right. I'll grant you the Free Trade and the Peace are two things that the EU has done.
MATTHIAS: And the Urban Regeneration.
REG: Well, yeah. Obviously the Urban Regeneration. I mean, the Urban Generation goes without saying, doesn't it? But apart from the Free Trade, the 50 years of Peace and Stability, and the Urban Regeneration--
COMMANDO: Agricultural Rebate.
XERXES: Free Health Care in all EU countries.
COMMANDOS: Huh? Heh? Huh...
COMMANDO #2: Education, recognition of our qualifications abroad.
COMMANDOS: Ohh...
REG: Yeah, yeah. All right. Fair enough.
COMMANDO #1: And the duty free wine.
COMMANDOS: Oh, yes. Yeah...
FRANCIS: Yeah. Yeah, that's something we'd really miss, Reg, if we left the EU. Huh.
COMMANDO: The European Court.
REG: All right, but apart from the Free trade, the Health Care, Education, Duty Free Wine, Court of Human Rights, Urban Regeneration, an Agricultural Rebate to help protect out farmers, a paneuropean governmental system, and 50 years of peace and prosperity, what has the EU ever done for us?

ALL: Nothing!!!

The point Saffron made about the BNP is true, but they are gaining more and more power and seats in constituencies where people are a bit like Enoch Powell and his views on immigration about 40 years ago....people in their 60is and 70is find it difficult to embrase a multi-cultural society...Even though we have had different cultures / nationalities here for many years, the country is being flooded and I dont see a happy ending......We're finding it hard to cope with the influx, our national health service is bowing under the pressure of patients, the benefits system is being drained and schools are struggling...It is true our economy is supposed to be strong but as a country we are finding it difficult and the average brit is starting to question what is happening.....

Nothing really British about Britain anymore, which is a shame

No offence shelley, as I know that you and I see eye to eye on a lot of things, but I think the whole point about Britain is, that there isn't one thing that can define it. (Other than maybe lousy weather and breakfast being served 7-9) imho the second you can put a label onto it, then it's time to worry.

We always seem to take the best ideas from other cultures and assimilate, i guess we're a bit like the borg (shameless Trekkie moment) in that respect..but, i don't think that is a totally bad thing.

You're right though about one thing. On the scale we're seeing this influx now, it is getting to a lot of people and therein lies the problem. I don't think we mind other cultures coming here, but we do mind when we start to feel (or perceive) that what we hold dear is being threatened.

A few weeks ago i found out a friend of mine four years ago stood as a councillor candidate for the BNP...to look at this person you would never guess that they hold these views....i suppose the BNP has a stereotype of skinheads etc but this person reeks of middle class morals and respectability..she is a church goer, works for a charity and is deeply respected by her community..until a mutual friend told me this info i would never have guessed and i have not confronted her about it as yet..although i agree people are entitled to their views it is a free country afterall..i have began to have doubts about her as a person and as a friend.....my parents were immigrants and my nephew is mixed race...what does she think of me??The point i am trying to make is that the BNP are appearing gradually to be more respectable and thus appealling to an electorate previously ostracised by the old negative image they had in the 80s and 90s....they are on the rise epecially in areas in the north of england and even in london boroughs like Barking....
I am glad to be part of Europe..i love to meet people from different countries as i love differnt cultures etc...there are good and bad in every country..i think europeans should be able to come to this country and contribute to the economy etc....but like Amathystsays Britain cant cope anymore with the influx....it does get to the point where you need to consider how much is enough....i think other countries in the EU should welcome other EU members to contribute to their economies and share the load....i dont like to see non racists becoming attracted to a racist party just because Tony Blair cant sort things out

No offence shelley,

None taken, my point about being british I cant really define..

Saffron - you hit the nail on the head, people who you would not think in million years are going over to the BNP, people are worried about the future of Britian and the British, I dont really think class has a lot to do with it, I always thought that the Torys were were a bit on the racist side but obviously polite with it....

The more certain minority groups demand and get more your average brit will start to get annoyed, there used to be a joke (might only be a northern thing so Mr H might get - if you apply for a job at the local council and you're a one legged, lesbian muslim you've got the job, you've filled all the quota's

I posted once about my friends little girls school being told that they weren't having easter this year because it might cause offence other kids of different religions...Last year Oxfam and another charity shop were told that they were not allowed to put up xmas decorations because this also might cause offence to other religions...what happened to the the addage "when in rome" I think people feel that we are losing so much because of others intolerence to Western ways...These are the things that are turning people to the BNP..

a couple of years back i applied for a job with the council and i had good experience..answered everything correctly and i really believe i should have got an interview...never got a reply...they even actually say that they particually encourage applications from certain groups as they are under represented on the council..whatever happened to skills and experience????
its ridiculous all this political correctness malarkey....Tony Blair has ruined this country....Human Rights Act is being exploited at every opportunity ...i have another charity shop tale....a mate of mine is a manager for one and they cant celebrate Halloween or sell anything to do with the supernatural...whether it be horror novels etc..Tarot cards...etc as it reflects paganism or something...how ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!
if i was to go to Iran i would have to respect their customs and dress in modest attire and i have no issue with that...i agree with when in rome....the government in this country needs to listen to people as parties like the BNP thrive on this kind of feeling and can get easy votes because of it

Property in Spain still quite reasonable, my best friend has an apartment on the Mijas Costa, lots of English out there, most the hairdressers out there are English in that region, internet cafe bars, you name it, its there, but there are still some lovely Spanish villages..Cost of living quite good too and the food in the supermarkets is wonderfull (if you like spanish products its cheap)
