I am not so new, but I guess I have tell something about me.

Not yet 30's Helsinki city man, athletic yet owerweight (), interested in history and weird scientific theories. Politically I am cross between neocon and libertarian. I also like off-topic discussions and trolling in general...well not really... I just don't like conformism.

Why am I here ?
I respect Poland and Polish people because they fought against impossible odds and didn't give up to opportunism like my nation did. I am very fed up with my own nation's "liberal" yet rascist attitudes towards the "backwards" Poles who have rightful sense of pride.

Ok, Mr Pain
Welcome here. I am new as well and I don't like conformism or racist in any kind of form. I like good discussion and brainy people. I am back at university - studying social science and the site helps me amazingly in understanding some social phenomenas.

I am in Canada now, grew up in Poland. What's neocon????

Yes I know. I actually mean The Continuation War (1941-1944) which was opportunictic collabaration with Nazis. Also Finns were known informants during Cold War. They betrayed intellectuals and protestors in Eastern Europe and Soviet Union.

I don't think that the Finns knew about the Holocaust during the war, so I really wouldn't be harsh about them.

Sorry to dissappoint...but in my experience those who harp on about being non-conformist are usually THE most conforming of all!

Ergo...aren't all teenagers rebellious.........ergo conforming to the expected norm...get it.......

Don't flatter yourselves.........

Well, not specifically Holocaust (Finland didn't extradite it's Jews, the Finnish Jews even were fighting against in Finnish army against Soviet Forces, so were the Roma and Russian emigrants ! Also in 1941-1944. And there were also some Polish volunteers, during the Winter War at least.) But during 1941-1944 Finns just got greedy, we took lands that never belonged us in the first place.

But I was delighted today seeing a rather positive article on Poland, or actually Warsaw, on Finnish newspaper Aamulehti. Article was named "the Ugly Duckling", as the name implies it was more about the good sides of Warsaw than the bad ones.
Aamulehti, which is a conservative newspaper, is more civilized than the biggest newspaper Helsingin Sanomat with it's pinko anti-Polonism.

They also have a blog, that has Poland-related entries (only in Finnish sadly, but if you want to read our weird language )

http://valo.aamulehti.fi/index2.phtml?page_id=2017&navi_id=2017

Freely translated from some of the entries:

"Still I claim that Polish is in TOP 5 of all nationalities that are close to Finnish mentality"

I don't know this is an offense against Polish.

Parta....well that means "beard"..

Your name would be probably be just Bartolomeus, or in very old Finnish: Partolomeeus.I dont think we have equivalent of that name.
