British Airways cancels Heathrow to Warsaw flights !

Just checking for prices on a British Airways flight from Heathrow to Warsaw for May 2008, only to find out that as of 27th March 2008 this route will no longer be available !

British Airways will be flying Gatwick to Warsaw after these dates !!

From 27th March 2008 looks as though I will have to be flying LOT , Heathrow to Warsaw.

What about BMI (or is it BMI Baby)? I am sure that they do LHR to WAW.

I really can't stand Gatwick and will do all that I can to avoid it.

why do you have to fly from lhr?

And what's wrong with LOT? You only have to fly 2 hours, as we in the US have to fly 9 hours on LOT. Sure, they're not as fancy as Scandinavian or TWA but you can handle two hours of it! Come on!

damn you people scared me ha ha, me and my man are flying to Warsaw from H'row in less than 3 weeks, thought for a minute i would get an email from ba saying its cancelled! phew... rubbish that news, gatwick is so far away...

I was in no way making a derisive comment about LOT ....

When making my travel arrangements to Poland I always check both BA and LOT , and in some cases there is a considerable difference in the prices quoted for same day flights.
It's always nice to have a choice ..... and I was stating that after 27th March I will only have the LOT option from Heathrow :o)

If the price is the same, I will choose BA as they give me points/miles and I am registered as an executive member.

I have heard that LOT flights as well as the food is supposed to be better than on British Airways flights anyway. I am not so sure about flying from America to Poland via a LOT plane. Many years ago I was in Gdansk when a Polish LOT flight was coming in to Warsaw when it simply blew up and destroyed two kilometers of forest in its path. Not to be recommended!

From February the airport near me (one hour away by public transport ie bus) will operate to 4 Polish airport currently operates to Katowice and Gdansk but will be going to Poznan and Wroclaw ... only thing i have found though is the flight times have changed ... like arriving into Gdansk will be at 0115am in the morning (used to be just after 2pm arrival) and the poznan flight will arrive at 0040am ....

Michal, all your statements about Poland are based on the past. Please make yourself a favour, stop living in 1980's! Things can change in over 20 years....

Interesting stat that I heard recently was that there are 490 flights from UK + Ireland to Poland every week.

Yes, that is true. I do remember though being in Gdańsk in 1886'ish and it was all on the television at the time. It was an old Russian aircraft but was being flown as a LOT flight.

And that’s why you did not recommend using LOT?
If you have done your research you would know that Russian aircrafts are not used by LOT for awhile now, and that overall safety record of Polish Airlines is very good.
Besides, most people interested in Poland ask questions about present situation in the country and not how it was in 1980's, so your answers are at least misleading.
If you must respond, at least have the decency to start you sentences with: When I visited Poland in 1986....

or....when i had a life, but gave it up because this polish girl i knew turned me down..

It was a very famous incident and anybody in Poland knows exactly what I am talking about.

Yes, except it was in the 80s, and it was a Soviet-made Il-62 - hardly comparable to today's aircraft. LOT may have many problems, but flight safety standards are not one of them.

I did hear that Poland later sold all its old Russian aircraft stock to the Ukraine.

Yes, thank you and I am pleased to be of assistance. They did indeed have television in Poland at that time though, to be honest,I can not remember if it was colour or just black and white. I meant of course 1986'ish.
