Polish immigrants living in poverty in Britain after failing to find work and accommodation are being paid to return home by a London authority worried about the numbers of homeless Eastern Europeans on its streets.

Why are we letting in so many eastern europeans. It is hitting the british taxpayers pocket very hard.

On the other hand, British companies save a lot of money by paying Polish workers 50% less than they would have paid a British worker.

It's called competition. And competition is always good for the people in the long run. Thanks to immigrant workers you can buy goods and services for less. It all evens out.

this is an extract - hardly billions

Westminster was given £167,000 last year to pay for one-way tickets for homeless Poles, as well as extra police officers and an interpreter to help its outreach work

less than £200,000, which equates to about 6 povey scrounger families who know how to screw the system!

Your cognative abilities fall short in understanding basic economic principles. Principles that, if applied without bias, would ultimately prove immigration to be beneficial to the UK economy.

If that was true, why is there still demand for Polish plumbers and electricians? You don't mean the British companies hire workers they don't need?

I'm not sure what "Joe Public" has to do with it. Even so - why don't you close the borders against all tourists that come to visit the UK? How Joe Public directly profits from tourists visiting the UK?

Johan the educated skivy! if you are so cleaver why didnt you make something of your life in Poland instead of coming to England...sorry but your kind really made me mad, you go on about the economics of my country and to be honest I really dont like you, you know nothing about the pain people have gone through during recessions etc., its all black and white for you (excuse my spelling!!, but yes I am ENGLISH) I find your clincial approach to my countries history quite an insult.

To tell you the truth I do not really like your tone but I must agree with you that with at least 600,000 Polish migrant workers here, or at least, so they say-enough is now enough.

I didn't start talking about "Joe Public", did I? If you cannot find a contra-argument, there's no need to get angry and use impolite words...

Hi Amathyst,

Hope you are well!

In any free market economy like the UK prices are ultimately set by supply and demand. Prior to immigration certain industries, due to labour shortages, lacked the ability to compete both on a national and international stage. The UK in many areas had lost market share and was set to lose more with the entrance into the EU of former Eastern European countries. Immigration has in many ways reversed this trend and will in the long term benefit price inflation.

I apologise about the name calling, you just see England as a land to make money in...to me its my home and i have seen it go through hell.

In answer to your point about inflation, please tell me why the average wage of an average brit does not allow them to buy a house and probably never will unless they mortgage themself to the hilt and risk losing it all it rates increase!...its happened before, have you ever heard of the phrase "boom bust"

Inflation will rise due to the shortage of housing which will increase bank of england interest rates. And the huge amount of money taking out of the uk by poles and sent back home. The poles filling labour shortages will only keep inflation low fo a short time. In the long run it will cos the uk ta payer.

No, I do not agree. I have a friend who studied with me in Portsmouth in 1983. He failed his first year examinations and returned to his parents in South West London. He is still there till this very day drawing social security benefits. Recently, he was successful in increasing his social security payments by applying for a top up-an invalidity benefit. This has increased his weekly allowance by two. My question is this, if Margaret Thatcher talked of moving to find work, then how can anybody be unemployed in this country and can apply for state funding if we can also accommodate millions of Eastern Europeans. After all, there are others not only Poles, though I do appreciate they are a majority. I was in a hotel in Leatherhead inquiring as to rates and the girl was from Bialarus, why should therefore be an unemployed pearson in Kingston-Upon-Hull yet we need to recruit in russia?
