Bryg Family Tarnow

I am looking for my grandmother Viktoria and her sister Stefania Bryg family in Tarnow.

Victoria Bryg born 29.11. 1900 Grabowka Tarnow. She went to Denmark 1914(my grandmother)
Stefania Bryg born 27.12. 1893 Tarnow went to Denmark around 1906
Maria Bryg born ??? ,the eldest sister she went to Amerika, Chicago married Stowik or Slowik
Joseph Bryg born ??? he stayed and married in Tarnow after 1. world war and he was a soilder in 1913(we have a postcard)

parents of the 4 siblings:
Jan or Jannik Bryg a Baker (he had been married before)
Maria or Mariana ( perhaps Mierzwa) she died 20 january 1930 burrial 22 january 3 o´clock( we have it from a letter) She had visited Stefania and her husband in Denmark for 3 months around 1919.

We have two other informations:
Victoria(Viktoria) Bryg was kidnapped when she was around 5 years old, it took place in front ofThe Maria Church (Krakow) in the Eastertime, the Bryg family sold bread infront of the church. Her father Jan /Jannik Bryg searched for her about 2 years and found her at last in a distant area with the guipsies that kidnapped her. This must have taken place around 1905 - 1907 perhaps a bit earlier.

Jan/Jannik Bryg dies after a his arm had been pulled of in a tornado, he was on his way to the market place with bread in a huge basket and the wind took him. He was badly bruces and died probably shortly afterwards.

Me and my cousins wíll be happy for any information.

There are some 470 Brygs in today's Poland, the largest concentration (358) in and around the SE city fo Tarnów.

In our data-protection-obsessed era that may not be easy. Theoretically one may contact the Wydział Udostępniania Informacji at:
ul. Domaniewska 36/38, 02-672 Warsaw, Poland; tel. 48-22 601-1839. This govt unit has on file the addresses of all Poles now living in Poland or who have died since 1990. To request a given address, the sought-after party must first be contacted by the above office to consent to have the info given out. They do not give out lists list of all the Nowaks, Kowalskis or whatever. It seems they purposely do not list an e-mail address so as not to be swamped with enquiries.

Oh...I thought you had some kind of an online telephonebook...would have tried contact by postal mail, to the Bryg´s in Tarnow area. They might very well be my family;0)

Many tradesmen belonged to guilds. You might find a guild of bakers.

Also, he might be listed in a trade directory.

We have however made all the rsearch possible and known to us.
Maria Bryg in Chigargo we have fotos, but no records found on Ellis Island or Ancestry.com payable part.
The newspaper archive I hoped excisted, but I do not believe I can have acces online.
I would so much apreciate anybody helping with the military records of Joseph Bryg, Tarmow.
I think we have read all what we are able to, even tried polish gen pages, but none of the family brance understand polish and we are far away from Poland in order to visit archives. So any help would be apreciated.

I notice that you have English spellings for some of these names.

example: Victoria = Wiktoria

I do not know if this Johannes Bryg you mention is from my family. I am though aware that you find this person at Ancestry.org and a woman from 1855 also called Bryg, but I do not know if they are related.

My spelling is the way my grandparents spelled their names on their social numbers. I know though that there is a warious way of spellings and nicknames.

I have looked at the JewishGen, in fact I believe I have tried all accessable online searches and read all I can, except the polish sites. By the way I am aware that Bryg might be a jewish name, but my fault not mentioning my family are Roman Catholics

However Wroclaw you mentioned earlier if I tried the newspaper archives and the bakers guild, I can´t read or understand polish so that is not an option for me nighter have I seen any online pages of the WW1 military records in english or germain. Hopefully someone will assist me who can read polish.

While I visit my parents house I'll check some information for you. Some documents servived to today. In Wola Rzędzińska still is Bryg family but my is from Tarnow. For sure it's not Jewish name, all were babtisted in the Roman Catolic Church.(many people think that we are Jews, becouse the name dosen't sond Polish and it's quite hard to pronauced)

My grandmother, Mary Bryg (Maria on baptism certificate) came to Chicago with Joseph Grudzien around this same time and Joseph Grudzien who was from Tarnow area. We have pictures. I am greatfull that it turned out that we are very much related to Elisabeth Grudzien....it was the American line of the Bryg family that I searched.

Joseph Bryg Tarnow
We have now the knogledge he had a son, he must be around 80 years old.
