We have been looking for Jozef (Jozef) Burak - my great-grandfather, who permanently moved to the States in 1913. Jozef (Josef) Burak came from the village of Brzezowka in Galicja, Poland (then Austrian teritory), near Tarnow. We are trying to find his descendants, if any, or those of his brothers, Piotr (Peter) and Michal (Michael). This is what we have learnt so far but if you know of anyone or if you think we might be related.. let me know.

Jozef Burak, originally came to Ellis Island on July 14, 1903 on a ship called "Konigin Luise" and the port of departure was Bremen. He was about 35 years old and married. At that time he came to stay with a friend of his, Jan Bogacz, also from Brzezowka. Then on February 1, 1909, one of his brothers Piotr (Peter) Burak, came to the US (Ellis Island on a ship called "Neckar" through Bremen)to stay with Jozef. Piotr was 25 years old and single. We assume that is when Jozef Burak decided to return to Poland. A third brother, Michal (Michael) Burak, immigrated to the US, arriving at Ellis Island on July 2, 1910. The ship of travel was called "Amerika" and the port of departure was Hamburg. Michal was approx. 40 years old and married. Michal was staying with Piotr who then apparently lived in New York Mills. Then, on March 8, 1913 Jozef Burak immigrated to the United States. He came to Ellis Island on a ship called "Pennsylvania" and the port of departure was Hamburg. He came to stay with his brother Piotr (Peter) Burak. There is no mention of Michal Burak in the ship manifest. Seems that originally, when Piotr and Jozef came to Ellis Island in New York, their destination was Utica, NY. In the ship manifest, the only address of Piot Burak was "Yorkville, Box 328."

I found a WWI draft card for a Peter Burak living in Yorkville, Oneida, NY. Born 5/7/1884 Austria. His wife's name is Anna. Also believe I found him on the 1920. If you need copies, you can email me.

The LDS Church has filmed the church records (1786-1909) for Brzezowka.
