Does the government regularly monitor people's bank accounts in Poland?

Someone said this to me the other day in the pub that the government monitors people's bank accounts in Poland for strange/unaccounted deposits and that if they see what they consider to be strange transactions they will investigate the account holder.

It all sounded a bit ridiculous to me, but he was so emphatic that it was true and I don't think he was drunk so that now I'm wondering if he was right or just crazy and should be put in a home.

Any thoughts?

Not government but bank has an obligation by law to register strange transactions. Just like internet providers in some countries are forced to record network traffic.

Not only in Poland. All bank accounts and transactions are monitored by governments. If they are not doing, they can do whenever necessary. You will have the network that will have the communication data flying in the net and you will not monitor? Maybe, legality isn't ready for that in some countries, but, not everythings that states do are legal or legality in the 'secret' forms which are legal again. Question is central banks too have this chance of monitoring or not. It is important cause central banks and governments (private sectors, private banks, etc) use different items as value.
