There has been a story going around in the Irish media, that signs are appearing on Polish building sites ''Irish not welcome'' - or words to that effect.

Can anyone tell me if this is true ? Has anyone seen them ? Have any of the media covered this ?

Just curious, I don't work in construction and am not intent on moving to Poland at all. Wife doesn't want to anyway, though she is Polish herself.

That's crap. One Polish owned construction company in the Northern Ireland did that... In Poland there's obviously no Irish workers looking for jobs, so even If there were such sentiments (but there doesn't seem to be) these signs would make as much sense as "Eskimos not welcomed".

I find that highly unlikely, i have heard some rumours however I think the Poles have other nationalities to worry about more than the Irish.

That's interesting. I didn't hear about that.

I was a bit peed off when that story came out here, it didn't ring true, even wages-wise.

Anyway, the story was carried in two national newspapers, and a Belfast one. All more or less identical to each other - some journalism huh ?

The guy who was quoted heavily, is a senior trade union leader. In reality, he has no evidence for those stories whatsoever. And what he claims to have said (I e-mailed him a few times) is very different to what was reported.

Of course the so-called journalist at the Irish Times didn't reply at all.

Anti-immigrant feeling is rising here now, and anything that fuels that carelessly should be challenged. In my opinion.

Did the Irish develpoer pull out?.

stormhorse:

Irish people have not come to Poland to work labouring.
I have yet to hear of an electrician or plumber living off their trade here.
The 'strange' part is that hundreds of thousands of poles went to Ireland looking for work on site.
If things would have been different this would not of happened.

I have met a few Irish living here, English teachers for the most part a few publicans and property developers.

I have met some Irish architects considering working here.

There are more recent articles from last month. But, go ahead attack me, ignore the blatant hypocrisy and discrimination against the Irish in Poland. If the same thing happened in Ireland you would be b*tching about it.

I heard this story from my mam a while ago, and everyone was so angry to hear this story being that all the polish over here in Ireland working, all I heard was stories, dont remember anything being on the news about it, as if it were factual you can bet it would be, it could have been something made up by irish people to stir hatred against some polish people, who knows.

It was reported by the Irish press.

See here, http://www.independent.ie/national-news/no-irish-need-apply--polish-bu ilders-get-their-own-back-1589265.html

[i]'NO Irish need apply' - the signs are already going up on building sites abroad in a throwback to the grim days of the the last century.

So the Irish press, who by and large have been foaming at the mouth about how great the Poles are, made up this story?
