My friend and I are going on a road trip from the UK, round Europe, and ending in Poland.

We're planning on buying a car over here in the UK, and using it for the trip. We hope to be able to sell (or give it away if we need to) when in Poland and fly back to the UK after a couple of days.

Anyone know of any restrictions or regulations, and more importantly, anyone want a car?

It'll either be the end of June, or end of September.

Thanks for your time

Why not buy the car in France? Using a British car in Europe is a pain in the rear: the steering wheel is on the correct side (of a British car) but Europeans drive on the wrong side of the road (with the exception of Italians, who drive on both sides).

Either way, make sure you get AA five-star Europe breakdown coverage!

More importantly, I'd worry about getting the export paperwork correct. It's not just a matter of taking it to Poland and selling it - you'll have to obtain the correct papers from the DVLA for a start.

Incidentally, you cannot register a UK RHD car in Poland.

cheers for the points, could i just scrap it in Poland?

I had originally wanted to buy in France, but with a budget of £300-£400 and my French being rusty, im not sure where I'd start... quite fancy an old Citroen though.

Just park it, leave the keys in the ingition and the door wide open, go have a beer or three: the car won't be there when you get back. Just remember to promptly report the theft.

Buy a left hand drive car in the UK.

Smaller choice, tends to make it harder to find a decent one which is inside one's budget, especially such a limited budget!
