buy one car at a time and sell off the parts. Start small.

I think thats a good idea, the Poles are incredibly resourceful and that means if they can buy an old used car part for a fraction of the price of new - they will.

Nah dont do that, you'd probably end up giving up before you even started.

A well stocked yard with a variety of beat up cars is the way to go, it will not fail. You could import old scrapped cars from Germany.

To find popular cars and get contracts from insurance companies for junked accidental cars?

That will be tough, boxes of chocolates and stuffed envelopes all round for that one.

In the UK you have to pay for old cars to be scrapped these day, if the transport costs made sense stock would not be a an issue from the UK.

I was wondering what are the envoirenmental laws in Poland for discharge of fluids from the cars?

That will not be an issue. Collect the fluids then dispose of at the appropriate sites.

that's not pollution, it's recycling, as long as the fluids are disposed of correctly, it's a great idea, there's a place near me here in UK that does very well....

I listen to loads of business ideas every week and this is one of the best I have heard recently. It sounds like you have the land you need and in a good location, the Poles love stuff like this i.e a cheaper option. Good luck if you decide to go for it and keep posting here with any questions you need answers for.

I needed to scrap an old Passat a few years ago. The junkyard weighed it and gave me just over 300PLN. To be honest, I'd have paid that to get it out of my sight. The car was mostly junk but there were several newish parts and a windscreen that cost me 700PLN only the year before I scrapped it. I'm sure the junkyard took that Passat to bits and made a fair bit more than they paid. It could be a good business, especially as the numbers of cars on the road is increasing all the time.

Thx!I am coming to poland this weekend and will start to work on it,I still need a consultant who could help me put step in insurance companies,I already have a computer programme for the parts inventory that starts with most of the cars in europe after1980,and I was thinking to but a modular home/office and put on the land and am talking to a rack dealer in germany, this project as I thought is not cheap but still workable,my brother in law here in usa who is in business says it is a long time project but will take atleast 2/3 years to start yielding money. But I do need a contact for aquiring junked cars from the insurance companies, police resources, car dealers etc AND A BABY SITTER* FOR ME AS I DONT SPEAK POLISH FLUENTLY.

There are several scrapyards in Warsaw, you see them all over Poland as you drive around, there is one just out by Janki, I don't know the name of the company maybe you can find it on google.

I agree that it is recycling and I also think the car parts is a good idea. My main issue is the stuff that leaks from the cars or doesn't get properly disposed of or even removed. If there is no policing of the chemicals then there is a good certainty that it won't get properly disposed of. Seriously, why do you think there is so much junk and garbage dumped in the forests. I don't think somebody will remove it out of the goodness of their heart.

That's a good reason why the junkyard business may end up being very lucrative. It can be a win win situation for both the buyer & seller. When my old car needed some parts, I went to Ecology Auto Wrecking. Found the parts I needed, at a fraction of the cost, as opposed to buying them new from the dealership. Only problem... if the part you've picked from the car doesn't work, you're probably stuck with it.

A sincere thanks PF, for putting up with me FIVE terrific years, muah!

PIP seriously just shut up, i know you think you are the be all and end all of all businesses but you really dont have a clue here, as you dont have in other issues but thats another story.

So what pollutant chemicals do cars actually contain? This is actually really funny.

Lets cut to the basics: they may have a little bit of engine oil, they may have some antifreeze for the coolant, they will probably have some window wash too and if youre lucky a little bit of petrol (gas) or Diesel. Break fluid is another liquid, and perhaps A/C fluid.

Bloody women. Thinking they can change the world....

And all of it should be disposed of (except window wash, I suppose..) properly.

Unless of course, you think chucking antifreeze down the drain along with some oil is a good idea.

You know, WB - you might have had a point, but the definition of pollutant -

Something that pollutes, especially a waste material that contaminates air, soil, or water.

Therefore, by nature, cars have plenty of the stuff.

don't chuck those fluids, everything has value. Especially for a junk yard.

seriously- got issues? You are pretty aggressive and not even through provocation. You are just making yourself look like an arse when you attack me for no reason.

I don't think I am the "be all and end all of all businesses" what I am is a foreigner who has started a business in Poland- perhaps somebody can relate.

Delph- I think you may be spot on with your observation.

Doing that if you run a business is one way to get a jail sentence. You have to protect the ground otherwise you'd will be landed with massive bill to decontaminate it (more than the land is worth). I'd also think you would need planning permission and other licenses.

that may well be true in the US or in Polish law - that can be a lot different in Polish practice though (if it weren't people wouldn't be dumping their garbage including old TV sets, chemical containers etc in forests - so no - most Polish people are not environmentally conscious - there is also a second side to it - local authorities tend to gang-deal with companies who charge exorbitant prices for taking your refuse to a landfill)

So what pollutant chemicals do cars actually contain? This is actually really funny.

Well let's see, there's engine oils, Mineral, Semi- and Synthetic. Plus Differential hypoid oil. Anti-freeze. Transmission fluid (ATF), brake fluid, Compressor gas (halogenated on older cars, a massive pollutant), more ATF in the clutch master and slave cylinders, and the power steering rack, plus the oil from broken shock absorbers and hydraulic struts for tailgates and bonnets, and then the nasty foam that's in the seats, sound insulation, dashboard and carpets for most models.

Once you've separated all those into their required EU bins for various recycling, and then paid someone else to take them away, you realise why there aren't so many legal scrapyards around. Add on top of that the insurance that companies should be paying for their employees working in a hazardous environment, and most scrapyards couldn't afford to operate legally.

With that in mind, I wish the best of luck to the OP, and if he ever gets his hand on spare parts for a BMW E30, let me know.
