Need pesel number, any advice gratefully received

My husband is polish born, 1969, but moved to uk when he was only 11 (1980). He still has polish passport and has always renewed the passport every ten years at the polish embassy on London. Now we see that a pesel number is needed but my husband does not know his.unfortnately his parents are both dead and he does not have a copy of his birth certicate so how would he get a pesel number in order for him to renew his passport?

His passport actually expires today so travelling to poland to try to sort this is not possible!
Any advice would be helpful.

I am not Polish but since my wife is Polish and I have been living here for about 5 years so I know something so as pr my experience I would suggest you few things. Your husbands passport has a permanent address, you need to contact the City office(Urzad Giminia in Polish) of the address in Passport as they will have all his details. I know it will be difficult for him to travel because his passport is expiring today. I would recommend you to get in touch with the Polish embassy and I am sure for them it is much easier to find the PESEL by calling to the local office or writing them a letter. How do you connect a PESEL number to profit? Strange.


A PESEL number is not pesky. It is the basic of your residence status in Poland. I had a PESEL from the beginning , when I had a karta pobytu for two years.

As far as I know, your gmina has to give you a PESEL number
