I am looking to import and manufacture product from India. Basically I am from India and I would like to import or start some business related to Indian products. I know one of the common ideas are opening an indian restaurant. I am looking for some other opportunities or ideas. If you guys have something to suggest please post your ideas :) Thanks in advance.

Your country is your biggest asset.
In Poland there are a lot of people who believe that India is the "light of the east". I think they would be happy to travel there (mind me - I don't talking about Goa resort, coctails and nightclubs etc - I mean "real" Indian experience).
Unfortunately - another common stereotype is that the India is a poor, dirty, dangerous country full of insects, leprosy and beggars. If you would offer the Poles the "Real India" experience but in safe surroundings - you would made a lot of money from it.

A word of caution. We are not the westerners. Most of Poles are think quite seriously about religion. Therefore any guru-baba worshiping or other religious propaganda would certainly led to a disaster.
For instance - Holi festival is perfect as the begining.

Please import Indian automatic change dispensers to be used in Polish stores. This will relieve the burden on both the cashiers and the customers.

Have you thought of something like an Indian dance/music cabaret, Bollywood, something in that area. maybe mixing it with an indian-style clothes shop?

Also, perhaps rather than simply a restaurant, a food and produce shop. There is a very good spice shop in £od¿, who imports fresh spices etc. You might also run cooking classes.

Gee - I wish to see a good dhol - party in Poland! I know this is a "folk music" - but on the other hand its bloody modern-sound:

I would consider kindergarten where staff members speak Polish and English. The kids would have a head start learning English. The business would cater to rich Poles and foreigners. I am wondering what members of this forum think about that.

It's a regulatory minefield and not recommended unless you have experience with the Polish educational authorities. There's also the point that rich Poles and foreigners demand the best - you can't get away with an average facility if you want them to pay a significant amount of money. The amount of money needed to start up would be frankly astronomical - though it would be a moneymaker if you were *the* best facility in the city.

There's also the point that there are plenty of such facilities these days - I know at least 3 in Poznan, and I'm sure there's more.

delphiandomine,

I am surprised by what you said. I did not think that the enterprise would be so expensive.
Thank you for your input.

You'd be surprised - for a start, you couldn't get away with anything but a building in a very good location. Then you'd have all the costs of staff (well qualified staff who are truly bilingual will cost a decent amount!) - then you have to think about equipping the building. And all this has to be in place before you can start taking the first customers!

There's also competition from the State sector to consider - I know of at least one nursery which is doing English/Polish together.

For running a cooking class I need to be professional chef and unfortunately I am not a chef :(

Nothing that isn't available from a multitude of sources already. To have any success, you'd have to get your product into supermarkets, and that won't happen unless you can dramatically undercut the existing products.

As you're in Poznan, you could do worse than to open up an Indian food kiosk.

the pharmacy market is flooded, which is a bit of a bummer for a pharmacist.

Wroclaw is right the pharmacy market is flooded- but it seems that no matter where they are they are busy. However, I would suggest something more along the lines of organic or homeopathic with natural ingredients. Or even something like Bath and Body Works. We only recently got The Body Shop- which people seem to like. Any sort of natural cosmetics or something like that.

Ive posted this before but ive always been baffled by the amount of similar businesses in Poland that seem to stay in business despite having plenty of the same within the same communities.
