Tortilla? Why would we import all the way from Mexico something
that anyone can make out of flour, salt, lard and water?

What other great ideas do you have Paulo? Importing sand to Egypt?

;)

corn flour

M±ka kukurydziana? But it's available cheaply in any shop in Poland.

You can also make tortillas with m±ka razowa and any other kind of flour
really (except for ziemniaczana maybe) and you can use oil instead of lard.

Seriously - it's such a simple dish that importing it all the way from Mexico is ridiculous.

It's not the same thing at all, for tortillas you need a special kind of process corn flour not available in europe.

Of for f**s sake, torq:
"You'll need a special corn flour called masa harina for making the tortillas. Masa harina is corn flour that has been treated with calcium hydroxide or "lime" which makes it more nutritious by releasing the niacin in the corn, and easier to digest. Masa flour can be found at Mexican markets"

Im sure Indians say the same about making Chaptis..

Why do people think that we cant get different kinds of flour in Europe? We are not the back of beyond...

you can get it from Amazon.com ;)
I have to hunt for a mexican store in US.

BTW, last time I remember, corn in Poland was mostly for animal feed :)

Personally, I prefer flour (as opposed to corn) tortillas.

hello everybody,

like mafketis said:

The kind of "tortilla" that we are offering you is special because the flavor of the mexican tortilla is very different, special and delicious.
So, just think about this, like a kind of exotic food for you..

Wouldn't the tortillas become hard & dried out, when they reach their destination point and are finally sold to customers?

Btw, why is a engineer trying to sell tortillas? Do you design the tortillas???

A sincere thanks PF, for putting up with me FIVE terrific years, muah!

Well Europeans just don't have a history of processing corn that way. I have bought (mexican) masa harina in Kuchnia Swiata but they don't always have it.

Guys, you are all wrong.
It took top Mexican scientists to develop the tortilla Paulo is trying to sell in Poland.
Did you know that Mexican food is the most popular food in Poland? :)

Alma, T&J, and Piotr and Pawel have them bagged up.

Corn flour is available everywhere. If you can tell the difference between masa harina and "plain old" corn flour, you're brain is good at *********** you.

Anyway, the only thing that I have problems with here are with my bean supply. I've got serrano, cayenne, and habanaro going on the windowsill next to the herb garden.

Isn't that special flavor killed by spices, beans and other fart inducing ingredients?

Get some corn flour, throw in some salt, some fat, some water. Mix it up, make a little ball, throw a piece of wax paper over it, roll it flat, throw it in the pan.

Or just buy flour tortillas. They taste just like prepackaged tortillas anywhere else in the world.

I have about 4 brands to chose from in my local supermarket...(personally I prefer chaptis)

Probably, plus the fact we can buy them in any supermarket in the UK...Im sure they are available in Poland if you hunt them down..maybe making tacos are that popular in Poland, but, like Americans the Brits have quite diverse taste in food, therefore its available...

Oh come on! The OP is from Mexico and wants to import tortillas? Mexico doesn't have enough already? He means export. It's a great idea, really. I'd export tortillas to a country which doesn't eat Mexican food and where I can already buy tortillas in everywhere from BOMI to my local sklep monopolowy. He'll make a fortune!

It was an honest question though. Free market research. As bad as the idea may be, you really can't knock him for at least trying to move forward.

True, but there are "mass" suppliers in Europe already...a one man band isnt going to achieve anything...

And now he knows.

On a side note, there was a guy in Prague that bought a press about 15 years ago and ended up building a nice business out of it.

I am Mexican in Poland

Polish eats a lot of tortillas but as a "luxury" or "for exotic", so they pay even 1.5zl per tortilla, that is around 7-8 pesos per tortilla.

Is not possible to get the right raw materials to produce it in Poland so people buy them imported or they buy a "kebab" tortilla that is much more thicker and different taste (like plastic).

Mexicans restaurants in Poland are rather expensive and they made their own tortillas or buy the cheapest possible, Poles doesn't know the difference so they eat whatever they serve them.

If you want to sell tortillas no one will pay you in advance... sorry Charlie but you have to invest...

Serious business are like that and the best way will be to come personally to Poland ,register your product in the EU... and give invoices...

How about importing Mexican Tequila instead?
cymru21  May 11, 10, 14:32    #30
There are at least two manaufacturers of Tortilla's in Poland that I know of. They have invested in machinery and productions lines. This is where the fast food chains get their tortilla from.
