There are already excellent tortilla factories (tortillerias) around Europe.

Germany, Austria, Check Republic, Spain.

And the corn flour used for real Mexican Tortillas is not the same you can get in the supermarkets in Europe, not even the maseca you get from Italy.

As the white corn grows just in Mexico and needs a special treatment (nixtamalizado) for the flour nobody can produce it... that is why Real Mexican Tortillas is very expensive in Europe, and you can find them in different presentation... to fry, soft, hard, yellow, blue, and white.

It depends if you really know about Mexican food, or you been just eating Tex-Mex European Style.

BTW i am looking for somebody who is interested in sale Mexican products in Poland, contact me.

Mexican food is the most popular food in Poland

It's probably just the European version of Tex-Mex food. Real Mexican food contains soup made of brains and other stuff made out of intestines. And I think that's gross. So, every time I'm in the US, I do prefer the TexMex version rather than the real version. I love a burrito as you get them at Jalapeno's restaurants or a decent Fajita while every now and then I cook Chili con Carne (I remember cooking that for my Polish ex - she had never eaten sth like it before, which stunned me as it is a very common dish where I come from). But even though TexMex is good food, I cannot help to think that it all tastes a bit the same. But I have the same with Italian food (except the anti-pasti though) and Indian food.

M-G (likes variation in food - one day food from MX, then I, then India, then Jewish, etc)

I don't know all the names. Is that a soup? I've seen several "authentic" Mexican dishes and nearly all of them had intestines in it. Somebody on this forum told me this as well last Summer, before I went over the big pond.

M-G (doesn't like intestines)

Menudo, when I had it, was basically a mexican version of flaki but more of a soup with stronger spices and hominy added. Actually very yummy.

MareGaea, if you find "menudo" gross... wait to go to the south and center of Mexico and see tacos of grasshoppers fried and crunchy. I am from North Mexico and still for me its really something.....aouchhh. I will not try them in my life, but still a typical dish of my country, something to fill proud of.

Mexican food as everycountry food has its advantages and disadvantages.... it is up to people what they enjoy most. :)

Personally I love Mole, pozole, real chile con carne (pork diced and fried meat in a read sauce made of just chillies, garlic and some spices... garnished with rice and beans... of course you can not miss the nice tortillas flour and maiz)
All this followed by a good tres leches cake.

Yummi :( getting hungry too early.

Have a nice day all Mexican food lovers!!

Polish eats a lot of tortillas but as a "luxury" or "for exotic", so they pay even 1.5zl per tortilla

1.5 zł a luxury food? Dude thats how much a burger or hot dog costs at a stand in Wrocław.

Anyway Taco's aint that popular in Poland and Tortillas are available pre-packaged.

Scottie,
I also love asado burritos, mmm and montados are the best, its a shame that Mexican food can be judge or categorized for people with few knowledge of it, jejeje!!
Have you ever tried mole burritos, i always tough it was wacala and it is delicius, you know things we learn when we dont have the maiz tortilla in the moment.

Castanea,
wow 36 cents of Euro per tortilla is expensive if you consider that is just the tortilla, and for SOKRATES the burger or hot dog (is a full snack or meal) and tortilla is just a part of a dish, pre-packaged you can find everywhere in the world, but original or closest to original you can't.

yep, Menudo is the soup that has the intestines and hominy in it. Some restaurants will rinse the intestines more than once so the soup doesn't have a weird taste. If it has a weird taste they probably didn't rinse the intestines too well.

hominy gross? Isn't hominy a type of corn? hmm.

mole burritos? What exactly are they like? Do they have mole chicken inside or do they pour the mole ontop?

Well you already have KFC in Poland so why not just bring in Taco Bell? KFC owns Taco Bell so the network is already in place. Is Poland ready for Mexican Fast Food?????

They already tried: two thirds of all the Taco Bells that have ever been in Europe were in Poland. It was a complete disaster. And the company which owns the rights to both brands in Poland is now busy rolling out Starbucks 'coffeeshops', so they wouldn't have the money anyway.
