How cheap can you go?

If you can get items delivered for less than 50 pence per item, then I'm very interested.

I find this incredible, secondhand (charity) shops are doing a roaring trade in the UK at the moment.

There are many second hand clothes shops in Warszawa and many of them say clothes from the uk. But the Poles are not interested in second hand clothes they are interested in designer clothes. So you would probably be wiser going to the discount warehouses run by the jewish business men in N17 that import designer clothes that are seconds and sell them in bulk.

In Ireland, we have eastern europeans setting up bogus charities looking for people to donate second hand clothes. Once they get the clothes, they ship 'em back and sell them on in whatever eastern european shithole they come from. Of course, naive old ladies give the person collecting the clobber a few quid. For the "poor childers", like. Me oul gran included.

Not cool.

Exactly the same in the UK. If I remember rightly, it was Lithuanians mainly behind this scam. The fact that the authorities did absolutely nothing to put a stop to it is shameful :(

I'm convinced most of the "second hand clothes from Western Europe" shops are supplied by such scammers.

This comment:

warszawaski:

somewhat contradicts this comment:

warszawaski:

don't you think?

There are huge numbers of second-hand clothes shops in Warsaw - the customers are Poles.

As you well know, they're a different market. Tell me, how do you reconcile your comment that "there are many second hand clothes shops in Warszawa" with your comment that "Poles are not interested in second hand clothes"?

There might be a business opportunity somewhere here.

All charities are required by law to be registered.

The only agenda was to query this:

warszawaski:
many second hand clothes shops in Warszawa

plus

warszawaski:
Poles are not interested in second hand clothes

Brian should get in touch with the British Polish Chamber of Commerce, maybe at their London office, or even better at their Warsaw office. The SME advisor is called Michael Dembinski - he's from England so there won't be any language issues, and the BPCC are genuinely good at providing contacts for members with a business idea. It's usually necessary to join first but it might be worth a shot.

This is very true.

I've always wondered why TKMaxx has never opened here. Every time I'm in the UK, I see Polish people on flights back to Warsaw with carrier bags from there.

Primark seems popular too - I know Polish people who enthuse about it when they're in the UK. It could do well here.

Okay this will be an overshare..but the only time i purchased from there was when I came on in work and purchased some knickers at lunch time, after one wash they fell apart (band fell off he knickers!), never again would I buy something from somewhere so cheap with low standards...the old adage comes to mind..you pay for what you get. Florence and Fred are better and dont fall apart and cost the same but have standards!

Can't you manage to ship your tat to Africa anymore? Do you realise the damaging environmental impact to other countires you have by shipping this crap off the Island?

Im sure Poland has enough of its own second hand and used goods without importing more..

Actually sweetheart I think you will find it's called textile recycling, what would be damaging environmentally would be if all these clothes were sent to land fill. There are shops all over Poland that sell used clothes from the UK and these shops seem to always be busy.

Seeing as you clearly have no idea what you are talking about here is a link for you to read all about textile recycling

Actually sweetheart, I think you might find it's called dumping our crap on another country - most "textiles" are synthetic! and not bio-degradable so we need to get rid of them somehow rather than keep filling our landfill dump sites! What better way than to send them to countries we perceive less well off than ourselves!! 90% of the tat people throw away is from low quality high fashion clothing retailers like Primark!

Do you want me to post a 100 links on how damaging it is to other countries and why we a sending it over by the ton?

No, as I have allready told you it is called textile recycling in fact if you want to be picky it's actually called textile recycling on behalf of charity

crap

If it is all crap as you say how come there are so many shops in Poland selling it, in some cases shops that have large queues before opening on delivery days?

Primark

lot's of Polish people like Primark and they don't have branches in Poland so whats the problem?

why we a sending it over by the ton?

Well we are hardly like to send it over 1 item at a time, now that would be environmentally damaging!

Granted it may have some adverse effects on the environment but so do most things, most Polish people drive cars and the majority of them were not made in Poland they were imported from other countries (probably you drive one?!) It's called import and export and most countries need this for economical reasons!

You can post as many links as you like I couldn't care less this post was put in the business offers section not the let's save the planet section!

Now that's a great idea, Amathyst! Makes me want to start my own second hand imports store. There could be a market for British clothes. Anglophiles would love a chance to buy clothing worn by genuine Brits, or people they percieve as being Brits, even if they are all immigrants.

Second hand is apparently cool in Warsaw right now...

(No sarcasm, just what the shiny (or not so shiny) young things tell me in lessons)
