scrap the previous post.

Are you declaring all the income from the property here, and can you give contracts that will stand up to scrutiny from the Urzad Skarbowy?

Who gives a phuck if he isn't? I would never ever pay tax in Poland purely down to the fact that the PL govt have the budgeting skills of an 18 year old who has just won the lottery. Just look at the state of the place. Poles think nothing of ripping off foriegners and with hindsight I would think nothing of doing it the other way round now.

You missed the point :P I don't care what he's doing, but if I'm to deal with him, I need it to be completely above board and open to scrutiny. I don't want to deal in the black market - it's just not worth the hassle if you're caught. I know a bloke here who got nailed with a huge fine for the 'crime' of not registering for VAT - he went over the limit by 9,000 by mistake. They made him pay that back, plus a fine of 100% - so 18,000, and they keep coming back to investigate him time and time again.

Sod that - better to stay above board and not to get involved. We all know that they're not going to treat foreigners fairly with this sort of thing!

I suppose it depends what you do here - some things are much easier to hide than others.

Well, it's good for him if he's advertising that it's totally above board :)

(makes a change from the usual 'oh...we don't do receipts' nonsense that you get with property here)

I actually would love to rent a house in Poland, for one week. Four people, no kids. I can't decide where though. If it was just me, I'd be happy crashing on people's couches, but I had to promise few of my friends that next time I go to Poland, I'll let them know so they can come too. Renting a house, staying in one spot and soaking up the lifestyle is just about our mode of vacation (we've done it that way few times already, but not in Poland), we hate to have itineraries and have to go look at sh!t. We like to shop in local stores, eat local food, drink local drinks, walk everywhere, stick cameras in people's faces and get drunk every night.
So, the choices are: Warsaw, Krakow, seaside, lakes, mountains. (we all have college age kids, it would be nice if were were not surrounded by college kids ALL the time)
Any recomendations?
My google earth can't find Siemiany, but I see it's north Poland, on the lake.

Thanks. That sounds interesting. We'll be GoogleEarth'ing it tonight!
Do you have a ball-park figure how much that apartment can run us for a week, for budgetary purposes? Also, I assume it does have a kitchen? That's kind of important.

Shop around is all I can say - you can see some really dramatic variations in the price of an apartment for a week. If you asked this a couple of weeks later, I'd be able to tell you more (my latest project is compiling apartment offers) - but alas, I have no real idea.

It should be easily possible to find somewhere for about 500-600USD in a very good location though.

You will have to explain this one to me AW, you are offering land for " rent " for holiday caravans or Chalet.

Holiday caravan - I understand
Chalet ( wood )- Is a permanent building, that requires a license to build, so the license and ownership of the property would be in the name of the land owner ????

Moreover, with the current price of land in the Polish lakes, it makes more sense to buy over renting as the law has changed re: purchase of recreational land by foreigners.

I had some friends that stayed in the above, good location for all and very good prices, they booked through booking.com.
