Might be because it's been a terrible season so far for chanterelles; too dry. The usual firms are probably having problems meeting their existing orders.

You're right, of course. I wasn't thinking. Hard week. Still, it has been a terrible season for kurki.

I just want a average size order, to start with, and if they are good, and a good price, next order could be large.

Polish, wild, dried mushrooms are the best, and yes, I have tried many others, not even a close second.

Have you tried all the wholesalers, mike? Such mushrooms are not that hard to come by here.

Define "average size order".

As you're no doubt aware, food importation into the USA is a tricky business - and so it needs to be a significant order to make anyone take notice.

Essentially - I could help you - but have you checked all the formalities about the importation? As far as I know, the FDA is quite strict...

It was me who provided Mike with the list of companies that deal with mushrooms.

Mike says nobody aswered his emails. Is it possible?

mike they can be out of supplies of mushrooms right now - and Polish companies won't answer an e-mail in such a situation usually

I just checked the website of Nasza Chata, since I sometimes buy their products here in Toronto. They say that they buy all sorts of mushrooms all over Poland, but they do not mention anything about exports anywhere on their site. Since they export all sort of marinades, and constantly work on various sauces and pastes*, I do not think they are interested in selling raw products. I can only guess that either they work through agents or they handle exporting themselves. In either case valpomike would be their direct competitor, so I would not even bother trying to deal with this particular company.

Just to give you some idea how the export/import work here in Toronto area: Several big companies dominate the market and they import everything - from food to weekly magazines. A newcomer to Roncesvalles, Toronto, is probably quite surprised seeing "Forum", "Kobieta i Życie" on display at the coiunter in a Polish butcher shop. "Coś dla ciała, coś dla ducha". :-)

(*) I do not like their hot water solvable paste because it has a slippery consistency and is hard to dissolve in hot water, unless you boil it for a long time. But they might have improved on that product already.

This might be the case. Marinades are better sellers that raw stuff. When in Warsaw last year, I saw Chinese dried mushrooms in a supermarket. Cheap, but I saw holes and even corridors made by worms in the mushrooms. I worry that those companies might try to sell such stuff to Mike.

If he's serious (and the order is big enough) - I can pass him onto a company which would deal with the buying/exporting for him. It'll need to be a big enough order to make it worth the hassle - but they'll do it for a fair price. I know there's the middleman and all that - but it'll be much easier for him to deal with someone here who knows the score, rather than dealing directly with the companies.

Any help you can be, would help me. Please see what you can do.

I want to start with the first order, to see, if they are good, and the price is good.

I may want to open a store, selling many Polish items from Poland, if this works out.

Many here, in my area, must drive to Chicago to buy now, at a high price.

Mike, why would you need them from Poland while they're sold in the US?

Because he doesn't understand simple rules of economics. He seems to think that he can import them himself from Poland and sell them at a profit while still undercutting the retailers in Chicago - but it's pretty obvious that the high prices are due to low demand and high trouble in importing them.

what a nonsense, for example Sweden is widely known and praised for their porcini mushrooms, they have heck of lot more of them as they have vast forest areas (much larger than in Poland) not to mention much less pollution. Italians are importing porcini from Sweden by truckloads.
