About 15 years ago, when I was still a uni student, I decided to try a smoke. My girlfriend`s brother had his connections, so we went to a certain address to buy stuff. I got a little shock, the place was so squalid, a typical drug addicts` lair. But I bought what I wanted, stored in a matchbox(!), not too cheaply but not through the nose, either.

However, I was so disappointed later when I smoked it. Nothing at all. No pleasanty sensations, whatsoever.

I still wonder today: was I taken for a ride and the guy sold some imitation to me, e.g., green-dyed tobacco, , or I turned out resistant to the influence of it smoking it for the first time?

And the last.

The simple fact is that the nurses and doctors spend most their time in A and E treating people with drug addiction, from a-class drugs to alcohol. I go by the rule of prevention before cure, but i think our society has gone past the line where that will help, even worse is the fact that in some hospitals, cannabis is given out, or allowed, just to remove the danger of threatening behaviour towards staff. That is where the problem is, i couldnt personally give a toss about what my patient does in his free time, but if i am to treat him properly, i dont want a substance abuse addiction coming in to it. People dont understand that when you do abuse, you will automatically write off 45% of medication you can take.

exaclty why i believe people like these should not be treated, imagine, if you were going to take drugs and in the back of your mind was, if this goes wrong i'm not getting treatment, do you think you'de be more likely to say 'no' because i sure as dam would.

Alcoholics and drug addicts are to far gone so leave them to whatever fate has in store for them, apparently the world is over populated so why not lose a few of those who don't care for themselves or anybody else

Wise guy :) I did smoke cannabis sativa hollandica and hashis when I was young, although never that much; didn't like it as I only fell asleep off it.

M-G (not every Dutch person uses hashis:) )

Nope, 'cos its usually a peer pressure thing, and i think that one should have the intelligence to decide for themselves, and not make it a legal thing, or forced by an authority. What about prescribed cannibis for those who suffer MS?

the word prescribed kind of sums it up, it has been given by the doctor. I'm all for cures and medication in the form of drugs like the example you gave but recreational is a whole different kettle of fish in my opinion

Good thing you didn't feel that way before you stopped.....I for one, know many people who are recovering alcoholics and addicts, and they are valuable members of society....they also happen to be some of the nicest, most caring and giving people I know. They also tend to be the most selfless, given the hell they survived....they are grateful.....more than the average joe on the street (not directed to pf's Av Joe;)

Would you say that about a smoker that has lung cancer....."well, they did it to themselves, so just leave them to their fate and don't treat them"......idiot!

What about doctors who prescribe to patients knowing all to well the patient has an addiction problem?

Every person has a vice or two, but i because of my ex profession cannot discriminate beteen them.

my best mate, is an ex heroin user. Without the help he recieved he would most likely be dead.

we could argue all day what is right, and wrong. But the problem is many people have an opinion, but havent seen or worked with dealing with these people. Im sure that woud open your eyes

Actually i felt exactly the same then as i do now, i always did control myself and never crossed the line between been in control to being out of control with either of the two things mentioned, so me having that view didn't really affect me.

i couldn't possible doubt what you say as i don't know the people involved. Whatever you say however there is more bad that comes from this than good.

Funny you should say that actually, My grandmother died of lung cancer and do you know why, fags, yes she smoked herself to death, she knew it, i knew it the whole family knew it. We were very sorry to lose her but have no problem in saying she brought it on herself. Its a harsh lesson to learn but at least it stopped my mother from smoking

I suppose you are perfect, Tornado....that's why you feel you can judge others and decide who should and should not be treated for their afflictions?

God help us all if you are or decide to go into the medical field.....

by no means am i perfect but that dosen't mean i cannot have a view on a particular subject. I just feel money, time and resources can be spent better elsewhere than on these groups of people, taking drugs and drinking alcohol can be controled by every individual if they use their brains properly, its not rocket science, uuuummmm what happens if i drink 18 pints in one night or, what happens if i take 3 instead of 1 pill tonight so i can get a bigger buzz.

You obviously know NOTHING about the perils of addiction......

What about the people who have been prescribed drugs for pain and developed a dependence on them? A doctor issued the drug originally, so that is ok?

There is no such thing as control to an addict.

I wanted to control my use for years till I finally quit.

Well there are people who can smoke weed and function as if they were sober, it's not like being drunk at all...You feel the same only happier and more stress-free, in my opinion.
