Cheap airlines are not THAT cheap anymore !

I've just booked a flight to Gdansk in June for £ 53 return. Wizz air now charge £ 12.00 for every piece of baggage checked in and also charge £ 3.00 each way if you pay by credit card.

when it costs you more to take a bag on the flight than the flight does itself, you know something aint right

£3 each way with credit card? I can't think of any way to book a Wizz flight that doesn't involve a credit card. I doubt that they'd appreciate the contents of my piggy bank in a jiffy bag.

Central Wings seems to be the only airline to Poland that isn't taking the Pis5. For now at least.

Yup, Ryanair reckons 85% of trips are for 4 days and less, so they believe hand lugagge will suffice! Expect more unusual charges on Ryaniar et al over the next year as the price of oil strikes home....you have been warned!

They've never seen how many pairs of shoes I need for a weekend break LOL!

I am now convinced that it would be cheaper to buy a new set of golf clubs/skis etc each time in the destination than pay the airlines to carry mine.

i hate Ryanair... they charge a £12 fee for certain types of credit cards, not to mention the other hidden charges. Honestly if it werent for T5 fiasco I would rather give my money to BA

Yikes! I take more than a hand luggage when I go camping for 2 days! A hand luggage will fit toothpaste, some lipgloss and maybe a light sweater lol!
From Canada, it costs more than $1000 to travel to pretty much anywhere in Europe :( Toronto to Montreal costs anywhere from over $200 - $500 and the flight is a little over an hour. rip off.

i aint being funny or nuffink like but when i fly to poland the size of some peoples' hand luggage is often bigger than the bag i check in. strangely enough these people are not normmaly cheeky english chapies

I believe its 10kg walk on and 15kg in the hold on Ryanair.. (sorry, I seem to have become obsessed with them).. theres hardly any difference here, but you still have to pay £18 each way for checking in your luggage. At least Sleazyjet have their taxes included in the price. Its all marketing innit.. advertise a 1p flight but charge £100 for it. Shouldnt be allowed.

HA_HA_HA!!! I've just had anoher sh!t experience with them. They cancelled a flight I was booked on for the 24th. A few days ago got an SMS saying it's on again, followed ten minutes later by an e-mail saying "sorry, mistake, it's off again!"
Spent ten days on hold at their call centre attempting to change the ticket, regularily getting recorded phone comp messages saying that a connection cannot be made to this number (could have gone with a 'real' airline for the price of the time I spent on the phone!). A couple of days ago my wife got through and changed the ticket date, no confirmation was received so I called again yesterday and eventually got through to be told that the ticket had not been changed, or that someone had simply forgot to put it through the system. Had to go through the process again, listening to the stupid little girls friends giggling in the background at her attempts to sort out my problem in English ( although when she said "Y for Wine" with reference to my booking code I almost cracked up as well!). Had I not managed to get through to them before tomorrow I suppose I would have just lost the ticket price. The word around town is that they are in a very bad financial position and ain't going to last much longer. Can't be sure if that's true but I even heard that from a mate who works at LOT (CW is a partner company of LOT)

These must be tough times for these budget airlines - the other day, a friend was telling me that things were looking a little shaky at Air Berlin.

A long time ago in a distant land I remember reading that most new budget airlines only survive until the 'big guns' move in on the routes they have established. If this is true then the moment Easyjet and Ryanair moved into Poland the others were f@cked. They might be more expensive but are well established and have the financial back-up to keep going.

I go from Krakow to Paris at least once a month, I used to be able to get a ticket for 50euro, now 100 is a cheap one.
There's easyjet, wizz and transavia and i usually combine them to get the best price and dates. But i have to say i really hate wizz! They're usually the cheapest but the airports are far and they seem to be late all the time! and a few hours in overcrowded Bouvais airport aint that much fun.. But maybe it's just the Katowice-Paris connection that's so bad for them?

BTW, what's up with prices of water in airports and on the plane??!!
I think this is totally against the consumer law or whatever you call it in English. In the area of the airport after the customs control, where you're not allowed to have any liquids, the water costs 2 - 3 times more.
In Bangkok they have free water in the big bottles, in Doha water fountains (like most airports in the States probably?) But in Poland or Paris nothing like that. Don't know about UK.
Maybe i'm being silly here but it just drives me crazy to think about the profit they make by abusing the fact we're not allowed to carry liquids.

CentralWings are indeed heading down the toilet at high speed. Not because of RyanAir/EasyJet/etc, just because CW are crap.

As I always want to bring hold luggage and always want to pay with credit card, I used to always fly BA. Unfortunately they've now stopped flying Warsaw-Heathrow, instead they go Warsaw-Gatwick and Gatwick is a pain in the arse to get to. So now I'm stuck using only LOT!

End of this year........I expect both CentralWings and Wizzair....to either have been taken over or failed.....

Only Ryanair/Easyjet left......on lots of routes..purely on aviation fuel costs alone....the others cant afford the higher fuel costs plus Ryanair etc have huge reserves.

CentralWings earlier announced new flights from Manchester to Gdansk and then promptly cancelled the plan.

WizzAir "appears" to be in a stronger position. The flights are always full and they are ordering new planes on a regular basis.

However, I also am finding their service has deteriorated recently with a lot of late flights.

In fact, I do see Wizz in a v. strong position. I received a press release the other day, announcing that they were creating a hub in the Ukraine.

Two months on from my original post and flight prices to Poland are going through the roof !!!

Return flights to a Katowice OR Gdansk are averaging around £ 200 per return. A friend has just had to pay £ 225 for a return ticket from Gdansk to Liverpool.

Another friend of mine wanted to fly with Wizz to see her family at Christmas but flying out well before Xmas and AFTER New Years Day and prices were £ 480 return !!

When are they travelling Spiritus? Peak times / weekends?

I'm travelling to Szczecin and back later this week with Ryan Air (without checked luggage, mind you) and the total spend is £80.

flying on Wed 16th July from Gdansk and returning Mon-total cost £ 225 !!

Ryanair are launching a new route from Manchester to Gdansk in October so I hope their prices are better.
