I will be traveling through Chicago on June 14, and will be there for the day before i take the amtrak home at 8 pm, would like some of my friends here to show me around the Polish sections so I can come back on my own. I travel back and forth to Delaware before moving to Illinois in March with my family, and this will be my first trip to Chicago since '90.
So who can steer me in the right direction??Please. Anyone I have talked to on this forum live near enough??There was also talk about a Polish Festival in Chicago, can anyone tell me more??

Thanks!

Jackowo is the is the area of Milwaukee/Central Park/Belmont. I have not been in the neighborhood for years and the last time I was there it looked pretty hispanic...
The most attended by polish community church is in that neighborhood.
Jackowo for Chicago is like Green Point for New York (Brooklyn).

Larry, I'm not sure where you are going to settle when you move here, but there are also good Polish Deli's in the suburbs.

Do you know the Restaurant "Orbit" right on the corner of Central park and Milwaukee. It's been there for a long, long time...I met my currently ex-husband over there...Memories.. :)

Central Park Ave and Milwaukee. Not Central Ave and Milwaukee. That would be Jefferson Park - not Jackowo :)

Eurola, I actually live in the area of Quincy Illinois, 4.5 hours SW of Chicago, but when I travel back to delaware for work I will be going through Chicago (is Cheaper) and I will be there all day when am back and forth, so I want to go to the Polish areas for food and hopefully to meet friends from PF. who can show me around and teach me more Polish. :-)

I appreciate everyone who has given me info on this!!!! :-) :-)

you're most likely arriving at central station downtown but then you can branch out with the local trains throughout the city :)

best bet would be to take the blue line to Ohare and get off on the harlem stop... beatiful views from the trains if you've never been :)
