How popular are chinchillas as pets in Poland (szynszyle)?

How popular are pets generally?

Is it true that there are still chinchilla fur farms in Poland (they have been banned in the UK)

Thanks! Dziekuje!

Don't know now but a few years ago my friend's parents owned something like that.

I have two chinchillas. They need a dust bath every day or their fur goes greasy.
I've seen some sold as pets in Poland. I would say pets are popular in Poland.

I love chinchillas, they are such gentle, intelligent animals and it hurts me to think that they are still farmed for their fur in the US. When I was in Poland and looked in the pOlish phone book, there were some chinchilla farms listed near Warsaw so I can only imagine they are farmed for their fur. I wish people would stop wearing fur, fur production is cruel, far more cruel than meat production etc. IN countries such as Poland and China there seem to be very little protection for the animals. In China they are skinned alive - the most horrific thing I ever saw and will never forget as long as I live.

You seem to have reasonable responses to reasonable questions.

I appreciate that after having seen some different types of responses on this board lately...

We may get a cat or dog while in Krakow for three years.

How are pets in apartments looked on there? Are there adequate park areas for walking and playing with a dog? Are cats and dogs licensed there and does everyone give them their shots to avoid rabies, etc?

We will want to take the animal with us when we leave and we know there are strict quarrantines upon returning home, so we don't think a reptile or small mammal such as a chinchilla would do well with that process.

Therefore, hedgehogs and birds won't work either. Do Poles think of them as pets as we do?

Where did you get your chinchillas?
