The Christmas Tree in Poland

When do the Polish put up their Christmas tree and what do they put on it...chocolate..do you put the present under neath, do you do it as a family ......do people have fake ones...eweeeew

I'm curoius about the ornaments too. We have so many different styles in the US. Ever see these new inverted trees? No joke...frikkin rediculous.

In Poland the tree should go up on the 24th. There are no presents underneath it [at first]
The presents appear under the tree after the Christmas meal.
Different regions, different traditions. A Star Man or Angel or Santa bring the presents through a window which has been left open.
You should remember that Santa brings presents on Santa Claus Day, December 6th.
The tree is decorated in the English fashion, but it is different in every household.

to be honest as a child the tree was always decorated xmas eve....

Traditionally it's said that he visit's through a chimney. What abut in PL? The open window?

As children...we leave milk and cookies as a gift. Is this done for Santa day in PL?

Now we are at the point where traditions borrow from each other.

I would say that we don't leave anything for Santa on Santa Claus Day.
Usually gifts are just handed over on Dec 6th.

I have heard that santa [at Xmas] comes down the chimney, but others will say that an angel comes through the window.

Also, it's not normal, as in England, to give piles of presents on Xmas Eve. [We don't give presents on Christmas Day].


Because traditions vary I will wait for other people to post their version of Christmas.

well when were kids we had a pillow case at the bottom of the bed with nut / satsumars (tangarines) and small gifts but under the tree would be the goodies!...and we always went down stairs at about 2am...but told to sleep after unwrapping bikes etc!!! right I could sleep after!

I did have friend that their parents wouldnt let them open presents until after noon!! how crewl!

not to mention those pink Christmas trees that came out this year.

Now that just wrong, Ill stick to my norwegan tree....

This year weve got Father Christmas wearing a black suit.................must be the soot from coming down the chimney

I used to sell christmas trees. I owned a christmas tree farm and sheared them in the spring, re-planted the cut ones, etc. Lot of tree growers in Wisconsin. There were blue-spruce, white spruce and balsam firs. They smell the best.

thats what I get, not sure this year, will have to be a small one since I live in an apartment

We sell about 2000 christmas trees every year, have done for 26 years.

Just working on this years buying in. The problem this year is we haven't had a good frost to set the trees for winter. Without the frost the trees will shed the needles rapid.

So be careful of what you buy this year Amathyst even the Nordman and Noble fir a suspect.

We also had white pines with long, soft needles, but they loose their needles very fast.

Don't know about white pines...........the popular ones in england for christmas are Norway spruce, blue spruce, lodgepole pine, scotts pine , noble fir and nordman fir. There is also a spencer which is a cross between a spruce and fir thats getting popular in this country too.

My personal favorite is the Nordman fir, Floor to ceiling with two sides cut back to get it into the corner. Smells nice too.

B&Q get theirs for a guy up in Scotland called Spurway, has plantations all over the place.

I'm told B&Qs orders were cut and packed last month, in this heat they should be going mouldy by now...

On December 6th here in Wielkopolska Santa brings gifts for the children that have clean shoes. The gifts are usually sweets, and they are being left in the shoes by him at night. If you don't listen to your parents, and don't clean them there’s no sweets for you.

Wow the blue spruce trees are the best! We had an 8' one last year. Used to get white pines and sometimes fir trees when I was a kid in Philly.

Interesting when I was a kid we never put up the tree till 24 Dec. and no presents till 25th, and I see that its so in PL too. I think its that way many places in Europe. Here in the US the trees are up before December! Ridiculous! Sigh. I miss Europe.

We put up so much for christmas. We have to start after Thanks Giving and do it in stages so it doesn't wear us out. It takes about five days to get everything put back up after the new year. I don't like it, but I do it for my family.We have a lot of small children running around, and it makes the place magical for them.
