Context of 'Mów dalej'

According to my Polish teacher, Mów dalej = go on!

Is it in the context of speaking, like when you encourage or prompt someone to speak on, eg when someone's telling you an interesting story and you were interrupted? The person who interrupted goes away, and you prompt your friend: Mów dalej!

Or is it go on in general?

thanx G

Edit: If you just give a command: 'Dalej!'

Can it be pretty much any context where you can move forward, or is it used specifically?

....or perhaps even "Proszę dalej!" = Please go on!, without even using "Mów.." in the phrase.

thank you, and if you just say 'dalej', could it be used in any context of moving forward, like prompting a shy child on stage, na przykład, or still only in the tell me more context?

this word alone wouldn't be too polite, it would be rather insisting, hurrying someone, with a verb it loses its rudeness and becomes (like your teacher said) "go on", "please continue"

I powiedz mi, co się stało dalej? Dalej can be used in all sorts of situations. But the imperative form mów dalej, mów głośniej, mów szybciej i tak dalej!
