you clearly have no clue of how the Polish schools look like these days

Really? Do you want photos? Are you a parent? Walk into any school.

There are horseshoe table arrangements, yes. That's about as far as it goes. Teamwork is de rigeur in UK schools and has been for years. Poles don't grasp this as a rule.

Yes and let me guess, you don't speak Polish and you don't know half of the things that happen around you in Poland.

Teamwork is de rigeur in UK schools and has been for years.

Teamwork may be good for group activities like show dancing, picking crops by hand, or moving furniture. But how can children ever learn to think for themselves if they are trained from a young age onwards to always depend on others to come up with the solutions? Especially in critical studies like maths and sciences.

Indeed, the UK school system is not something Poland should be following at all:

China's poorest beat our best pupils - Children of factory workers and cleaners in Far East achieve better exam results than offspring of British lawyers and doctors, says OECD.

British schoolchildren are lagging so far behind their peers in the Far East that even pupils from wealthy backgrounds are now performing worse in exams than the poorest students in China, an international study shows...English schools needed to adopt the "teaching practices and positive philosophy" that characterised schools in parts of the Far East.

I agree I am British and have a few polish friends, and they are loyal honest and fantastic friends to me, I hate racist people like the stupid American guy above, I am ex British special forces and have been to many countries and seen some very bad things as a soldier but I know how crap the American soldiers are and their bad attitude towards other races and such, but I understand the political problems and corruption in Poland,, I say to the good polish people, come to England you are very welcome here,

Funny how Poles have contributed far less to academia than Brits and Americans...

There was a time when Poland contributed more to academia than Brits did.

Witelo of the 13th century founder of Optics.

Copernicus of the 15th century founder of modern science with the heliocentric theory backed by science.

Albert Brudzewski of the 15th century was behind the first proper rotation of the moon.

Michal Sedziwoj of the 16th century discovered Oxygen.

Jozef Strus of the 16th century founded modern pulse methods.

Kazimierz Siemienowicz of the 17th century invented the first delta wing multistage rocket.

Are you sure?

Optics

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_optics

Quote:

"Optics began with the development of lenses by the ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians, followed by theories on light and vision developed by ancient Greek and Indian philosophers, and the development of geometrical optics in the Greco-Roman world."

Witelo

Half German...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Witelo

Quote:
"Witelo's mother was from a Polish knightly house, while his father was a German settler from Thuringia. "

Copernicus

You mean 'Kopernikus'? I heard he was German as well... :)

Michal Sedziwoj of the 16th century discovered Oxygen.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oxygen

Quote:
"Oxygen was discovered independently by Carl Wilhelm Scheele, in Uppsala, in 1773 or earlier, and Joseph Priestley in Wiltshire, in 1774"

How about Marie Curie. Surely you've about her.

it's pathetic how some are always trying to downgrade everything Polish. even if Kopernik (very German name) was half German that doesn't make him German.

Kopernik's mother was related to Polish nobility too.

Kopernik (very German name)

Not a name that he ever used himself though, is it.

even if Kopernik (very German name) was half German that doesn't make him German.

One could just as easily say even if Nicolaus (very Polish name) Copernicus (very Polish name) was half Polish that doesn't make him Polish.

I am Polish and I am a freshman this year. I am currently taking a junior level math class, honors english, honors biology, and honors world history. I can also tell you that just because we boast about our country doesn't make us ignorant. Every single person loves to boast about their country. So please learn some common sense and learn more about a culture or country before you criticize. Also, if anyone is ignorant, it is you

I see no need for Poles to feel ashamed of their culture and country. To me, Poland is interesting, lively and colourful.

We Australians don't learn much in school about Poland or Polish people, but most Polish-Australians make a good impression on us here and fit well into our society. I have met very friendly and intelligent Polish persons who are an asset to our society.

So why all this fighting? Wizard, you must be happy that your post got so many responses.

Well, you just got one speaking highly of the Poles. I hope this makes you feel silly :)

By the way it's always struck me why the boys from the west of Europe, Israel and India do not win computer science competitions ?

( AND THE USA SHOW VERY MODEST RESULTS AFTER CENTRAL AND EAST EUROPEANS JOINED THE COMPETITIONS AFTER 1998 ) THE WINNERS ARE RUSSIANS , POLES, UKRAINIANS, SLOVAKS, BELORUSSIANS, BULGARIANS AND CHINESE BOYS

You mean 'Kopernikus'? I heard he was German as well... :)

Remember that reading is more intellectual employment :

Encyclopædia Britannica,Encyclopedia Americana,The Concise Columbia Encyclopedia, The Oxford World Encyclopedia, and World Book Encyclopedia refer to Copernicus as a Polish astronomer.

You should be more interested in reading, I suppose, and get your kids interested in reading too.

Encyclopædia Britannica,Encyclopedia Americana,The Concise Columbia Encyclopedia, The Oxford World Encyclopedia, and World Book Encyclopedia

As I told you before: you are one of those guys here on PF who constantly moan and b*itch about the west, but when it suits your agenda, you are more than happy to cite western sources. You know what that is called in English, do you?

The title of this thread should read "Some Polish-American people are the most ignorant in the world"... :)

The title of this thread is plain stupid as there is no way to prove the statement, not to mention it project animosity towards Polish people. If you say "Some Polish-American people are the most ignorant in the world" you are correct but so are some Americans, Czechs, Japanese, Argentinians and so on....

So really what is the purpose of this thread? talking crap about Poles?
