i wanted to rent a room. i called the landlady and on the phone she was so nice and cool. so i went to check the room today. but one of the tenants was there. i checked the room and it was ok. she told the landlady about my visit and upon the landlady knowing i'm black, this is the email i got from the tenant:

Well I don't know what to say. Are You sure all the bad things happend to You because You are black? Maybe there is another reason? Like in all another countries, also in Poland is a small amount of pepole, who indeed are racist, but You can't say, we all have a problem, because your gf's parents don't want to accept You or You have problem with accommodation. It is offensive to say that in my opinion. Mabe You only should be more polite and nice? (I don't know, just guess). On Your site I would by some flowers to Your gf mother, show respect to her father and overlook thousands of another accomodation announcements. I thing people in general don't care what colour of skin somebody has, but how he behaves. If You respect our customs, I think no one shold be malicious to You. I honestly wish You luck.

i wanted to rent a room.

In the house where there is another female tenant? And your gf was ok with it? Now I see her parents are right.

is this an advanced form of racism?

No, this is advanced form of playing racial card by you.

just this past saturday i went out with my friend and 4 guys stabbed him!

And that's obviously because he was black, how could that be anything else. One day if you get hit by a lightening it will be because you are black isn't it? I see you mastered playing racial card to the perfection, keep up the good work.

*applause* poland, well done :)

Thank you, I'm glad that after all those "terrible" things that happened to you, you are still happy and smiling :)

@Brzenczyszczyki: i didn't say ALL people in poland are like that if you read the subject of this thread i wrote "SOME poles..." :). and be polite to who? the forum members or to my gf's parents (who have no intention of seeing me at all, i can't even meet them. they don't know me). ok. so the accommodation problem is not about my colour. fine. my gf's parents is not about my colour. good. now what about the stabbing of my friend with a knife and they spitting on us?

@Wulkan: there is a female tenant who is going to MOVE OUT on 1.08.2014!! so i'll occupy her room. in fact the are two girls in 2 rooms who are both moving out. and 2 boys moving in. me, and some Damian guy (polish). the landlady agreed to sign a contract with Damian. but not with me :D. i have a gf why should i stay with another girl??? :/

"One day if you get hit by a lightening it will be because you are black isn't it? I see you mastered playing racial card to the perfection, keep up the good work." = ?????

you're polish, naturally you'll defend them so i'm not surprised. and you tell me i mastered playing the racial card? you should see a doctor.

well i'm happy. if my gf parents don't want me. i don't care! if the landlady doesn't want to give me her room, i don't give a flying ****! BUT the only case i care is when these bastards spat on us and stabbed my friend. that's when i start to worry. and you couldn't even tell that smile was sarcastic. your iq is quite low.

You mean all Poland or only some people?

*applause* poland, well done :)

To all or only some?

So many times I was afraid I will be attacked, when I was comming back home at night. The only thing, that my low IQ suggested me was stay quite, if somone was accosted me, because I am aware, alone I am powerless, especially if someone has a knife. My point is I am Pole and I am also endangered to be treated like Your friend. So You were spat, really it shouldn't happen d, but what was later? You are trying to say, that You have been spat and then at once someone pulled knife and stabbed Your friend?

your iq is quite low.

Well, mabe lower than Yours, but I think You will be surprised. Some people say, that such a statement said in discussion automatically ends it.

@Brzenczyszczyki:

the iq part wasn't even about you haha. but ok.
and i keep saying SOME. i know some great poles and i really like them.
they spat on us (for no reason, well obviously cause we're black). then i did the same thing!! then there was a fight. they got a knife. stabbed my friend.

of course when i'm walking in town people insult me. say nasty things to me. that's ok. i don't care. and i don't react. but dare you not touch me. they spat on me.

they got their fair share of punches from me. but too bad my friend is not as hard as me. but i did teach 2 of them a lesson so i'm happy...just not happy about my friend.

:)

Sorry, I am still learning English and I am not very fluent, like You probably has noticed. Obviously my bad in misunderstanding. But back to the topic, now it is clear to me what sort of situation it was. I even understand You, but like You see, it was Your choice to choose such a way. You have been provoked, You decided to revange, Your friend had been hurt. I have nothing against streetfights, if the only people, that are hurt, are participants, this is not in public place and after that, no one of them dare to complain. You chose to mete out justice by fists, Your bussines. But now You can't say, You are without guilt in my opinion.

@Brzenczyszczyki: eerrrrm...so you're trying to tell me if someone spits on me. i should just keep quite? and sit there? and watch him? yeah?

Do whatever you want, only keep in mind, that You have to take all the consequences of Your choices. It isn't nothing new. I have to said it cleary: I am on Your site about the reason, but not about the solution. Sometimes we need to tuck our proud into pocket, otherwise it can be painfull. Four guys with knife against two? Sounds like someone have to be wounded.

of course when i'm walking in town people insult me. say nasty things to me.

It isn't right, it shouldn't be so, but as You said, the best way is just to ignore. It is even more diffucult, than react, but thoroughly best. I am also sometimes insulting by other people because of some stupid reasons, but I am aware, everyone can have spirious opinion about me, but only my is right and this is enought for me.

I don't see anything wrong with that at all, just sharing a house.

is this an advanced form of racism? the poland is very good at it. seriously. recently i posted a thread about my gf's parents not wanting to accepting me cause i'm black.

It may well be nothing to do with skin colour. Some older people don't like renting to foreigners. Remember, until only a few years ago, Poland was a difficult place to live in with contact with the authorities often unpleasant. People can even now be afraid that renting property to a foreigner can put their head above the radar, especially the radar of the tax authorities and other public bodies like the immigration authorities etc. I found that out while trying to sort out a flat for an employee - some just didn't want to rent to a foreigner.

like that wasn't enough. just this past saturday i went out with my friend and 4 guys stabbed him! :o there was a fight cause they spat on us. check the pictures below.

That sounds really bad - did you report it to the Police? There's a very short time period to get a doctor's report (obdukcja) on injuries if it's a police matter.

i'm glad there are really normal and wise people here on this forum like jon357.
what could i possibly do to another girl i share a house with if i know she has a boyfriend and she knows i have a gf? that's even if i was going to live with a girl in the first place. ok. i understand they don't want to rent a room to a foreigner. their problem. there are so many rooms in wroclaw.

There's a very short time period to get a doctor's report (obdukcja) on injuries if it's a police matter.

well 3 of the guys were arrested. 1 took to his heels and vanished. my friend was in the hospital, got treated and is now home. the police said they'll call one of us. if they don't i'm going to be really pushy about this and report this everywhere possible.

No, I'm being objective on that matter and your isults are only proving that you don't have any arguments whatsoever. You know I'm right and that clearly hurts you.

and you couldn't even tell that smile was sarcastic. your iq is quite low.

Yet another insult and poor argument that only proves my point. Sarcasm is showing your sense of humour which means you must be happy.

Yes, even jon357 just like everyone else here appart from yourself doubds it's about your skin colour.

I have seen the letter before it was removed. It was something like: "Wlascicielka nie chce wynajmowac pokoju obcokrajowcy" - nothing about the skin colour.

@Wulkan: the tenant wrote the letter. not the landlady. i don't know if she mentioned anything to her concerning my skin colour. which obviously the girl would write to me about! common sense. all i want to say to you is. on the phone, i spoke polish with the landlady, she was very nice, gave me time and a date to go see the room. it's clear on the phone she didn't know i'm black. fine. now i went to the house, the tenant showed me the room and the LATER told me the landlady said she doesn't want to rent the room to foreigners. when earlier on the phone i had told her i'm not polish! come on guys!

I would like to see the letter. Can you post it in the "Speak Polish" > "Language" section?

on the phone she knew i'm a foreigner cause i told her where i'm from except she didn't expect me to be black. :). well i don't care. i told so many racial stories and this adds up to everything i wrote. most important to me is the stabbing on my friend. that woman can keep her room! i get to be with my gf regardless of what her parents say, people can insult me. i don't care! but don't stab my friend with a knife.

Where did I say otherwise?

the tenant showed me the room and the LATER told me the landlady said she doesn't want to rent the room to foreigners. when earlier on the phone i had told her i'm not polish! come on guys!

Maybe she didn't have any excuse at the time when speaking on the phone!

i told her where i'm from

Tell us it's the English speaking country and it will all start making sense :-)

people can insult me

Where was you insulted? You are the one who is insulting:

you should see a doctor.

your iq is quite low.

@Wulkan i meant people on the street can insult me. and yeah, i'm from and English-speaking country. makes some sense now? so if all is clear, now tell me this is nothing to do with skin colour nor is it racism. you tell me Wulkan. i want to hear your take on this.

Why do you even comment on the things that have been already explained?

@Wulkan i meant people on the street can insult me.

If you got insulted on the street it could be racism, what I'm saying is that not everything bad that happens to you is racism like you are trying to show.

you tell me

I will tell you what I think imano, you are Igbo I base this on your username which would translate to " you know. "

Most of the Igbo I have met always seem to believe they are being persecuted most likely because of history or them being the "lost tribe of Israel."

I will jump in and say that over here in the UK i hear the Poles play the race card a lot, suggesting that everytime something is mentioned about them (be it a joke or different customs) they get offended & call people racist.

So you see it works both ways people, & if u cant take what British people are saying in a non racist way & you cant laugh at yourself (as the British have been doing forever) then don't claim that imano isn't experiencing racism either.

There are racist groups in all countries (that's why imano said 'some' & not 'all'). It isn't right & it shouldn't be just shrugged off.

These 4 guys probably did spit at you because you're black but they were probably a bunch of small minded out of work thug racists with nothing better to do than take out their aggression on a smaller group (because they're pussies).

If they'd spat at me then the least i would have done is spit back at them. Good for you & don't take any **** off of anyone imano!!!!

he probably did just that and his friend ended up cut up with a knife

there are plenty of racist Poles indeed but fighting back is not a wisest thing to do

The discrimination laws in the UK are based on 'protective characteristics' .
Polish people are well within their rights to complain against discrimination.

you keep contradicting yourself. poles can complain right? and i can't?

there are plenty of racist Poles indeed but fighting back is not a wisest thing to do

so someone spits on me in the street. i'm assuming you're polish. what would be the wisest thing for me to do? look at him and walk away?

hell no. i'll punch the **** out of his face! plus my friend was even keeping his cool and TRYING to stop the fight! he was telling me to calm down

he didn't fight. but one guy just drew a knife and stabbed him. this doesn't make sense. why didn't they stab me instead. i was the one delivering punches

to 2 other guys. they just find a weaker person and then attack him. well fyi, i'm not weak. and anytime i meet them, if they do something stupid. i'll fight them.

Imano, you acted outside the law as a consequence your friend was stabbed.Violence only brings violence.

A landlord has a right to choose his/her tenant based on their criteria.

If someone spits on you in future and makes negative remarks based on your characteristics, take photos of them and report it to the Police as hate crime and demand the Police take swabs of the saliva and give them pictures of aggressors.

A landlord has a right to choose his/her tenant based on their criteria.

Not if his/her criteria are along the lines of 'no blacks, no gays, no muslims, no jews'.

did that landlady intend to rent 100% legal, signing forms, paying taxes and so? maybe she didn't. You may call it racist but you will draw attention to that apartment, more than if you were white foreigner.
jon357 74 | 21,757

Spot on. The landlady may well have been afraid that the immigration authorities would want to see paperwork. By the way, she didn't know what colour Imano's skin is however the same would be true for a pink-skinned non-EU foreigner and the lady might not be aware that for EU people it no longer matters much.
