Hello

By chance does anyone know the typical exchange rate at a kantor in Poland at the moment. Today (Monday) it seems the best rate I can find in England is 4.14 to the pound.

Cheers

Thats impossible. You will not gat a decent exchange rate at the moment because the exchange rate is poor from GBP-PLN.

Sounds about right to me.

I could live with 4.6 to the pound (not happy) but 4.14 is ten per cent less.
trying to decide whether to take 4.14 in england today or a generally better rate in Poland next week....

Think the best way to win is to find someone who has a lot of £'s who wish to buy PLN or someone who has loads of PLN who wishes to buy £'s you could always look at the exchange rates and come to a reasonable agreement which would benefit both parties.
At the moment I would be interested in Buying PLN for a better than banking rate for Sterling, so if you know anyone who has excess PLN and wants £ sterling then let me know....Of course it will have to be authenticated..

the official rates in Poland can be checked at the central bank's site, NBP (National Bank of Poland):
NBP's exchange rates
today:
funt szterling 1 GBP (buys at) 4,2999 (sells at) 4,3867
the prices in a commercial bank or in a "kantor" (exchange offices) shouldn't be that much different (buys at 4.11-4.25 and sells at 4.25-4.40)
you can check the prices here:
"Kantory" exchange rates
(you can click K: and S: to sort the results by the price at which they buy/sell)

So going by the results I would have to be lucky to get the 4.14 in poland exchange rate that I could have had this morning in england. I take it everyone has noticed the swizel exchange rates offered at airports both here and there...

I checked some of the kantors websites, it seems you could still sell your pounds at 4,20-4,25, but sometimes it's only higher amounts (at least 1,000 pounds) and sometimes a call is needed to confirm if the price is still valid, the online exchange rates aren't binding.

So it could be worth waiting until next week and then shop around a bit.
Still showing 4.14 this morning in england but the worse I found online was 3.98

If you look at the history of the Pound against the Zloty it has been steadily declining for the last 18 months.
Is it possible find predictions of exchange rates in the near future?

I wish I could take a good guess on whats going to happen. Taking a small risk I am paying various bills in Poland now even though they are not due for many months, thinking that the rate will only get worse.

If that the case, we'd all make a mint hedging on forex...

Apparently just over 3 yrs ago the zloty was around 7 to the UK pound, as the zloty is now "shadowing" the Euro , it has appreciated 17% over the last year, so has the zloty also risen by the same amount...if this continues much longer the Polish economy will get into serious difficulties!!

I noticed a big difference in the rate in Poland compared to UK, so best bet is to wait until you are in Poland.

The Zloty is strengthening far more than the Euro.
Remarkable when you consider just how strong the Euro is against the Dollar and GBP.

I'm only looking for an economic forcast, not a guarantee of a specific exchange for a future date.
