Is anyone here into cycling? The Tour of Poland is on Sky Eurosport (in the UK) soon.

There's also a Polish guy racing in the Tour of Spain (Vuelta e Espana) at the moment. His name is something similar to "Szmyd" I think.

I think his name is Sylwester Szmyd, a very good Polish cyclist. But it seems he works only as a "helper" for his teammates...

Yeah, but 7-8 guys on a team of 9 are typically working as 'helpers'.
It's not a bad thing, it's the way pro cycling works. He might get his chance to do his own thing in the Tour de Pologne, if he's racing..

Wyscig Pokoju doesn't basically exist any more. In 2007 and 2005 it was canceled due to lack of financial support. I don't think there will be many more before it totally dies. Besides, it was only for amateur cyclist..

Cycling is a disgrace to all sports and should not even be classified as such, look at the joke of the Tour De France, everyone in that sport seems to be on something. It seems to me its full of crooks and cheats and should be discredited as much as possible

thanks hello.

torn.. i feel the oposite.. i think cycling is awesome.. and tour de france is bigger then ever.. the thing is that all the other sports are the ones that are actually hiding something while the tour is sticking to their guns and cleaning the sport up. i have no idea where you're located but sometime look into the american professional sports: NFL, NBA, MLB and then let's talk about dirty participants.

just because cycling is taking the moral high ground over these other sports, which with respect being british i don't know to much about, although i follow the baseball a little, dosen't make what goes on in cycling any less of a disgrace.

If somebody is murdered and one guy says, yes i did it, does that make his action any less criminal than if he had denied it, no, its the same in this case

so you don't care that the tour is taking the higher moral ground? they shouldn't? you can't have it both ways.

Actually, in the eyes of the judges, it does. In most cases, you could get lifetime in prison instead of execution if you admit you did it.

i don't care what stand it takes, it is full of cheats and should be treated as such.

Of course it doesn't. But it's a first and usually the most important step in starting the healing process. Without admiting guilt there's no chance for improvement.

A similar situation happened in the Polish Football Association (PZPN) - it even resulted in murdering a Polish Minister of Sport who had enough courage to fight against the corruption. It was a tragic situation, but without it the Polish footbal would still be run by corrupted criminals.

of course there is a healing process but it does not mean cycling is a disgrace at the moment, its in ruins politically speaking

Those who really love cycling (both the cyclists and the fans) will survive. It will actually be a chance for many talented Polish cyclists who hasn't had enough "courage" or finances to use steroids.

so, if the tour is full of cheats then maybe "why bother" should be said.. most are on level grounds physically since most do the same "enhancers." the funny thing is that there was a news story the other day, floating about, that talked about sizes of hearts of pro cyclists and how the "enhancers" may be detremental to the efficiency how these huge hearts pump the blood. lol.. i'll look 4 it here and see if i can't find it. interesting stuff.

"Team Liquigas will offer the debut of 22 year-old Polish racer and national time trial champion Maciej Bodnar and will look to favorites Danilo Di Luca, Filippo Pozzato and Vincenzo Nibali for strong performances."

they announce the Tour should be widely broadcasted via itvp.pl (online) in addition to some coverage in TVP 1, 2, 3 (the most will be covered by TVP Sport, which isn't popular among Polish viewers)
