Czaponis surname

ok I know some know how to find out where surnames come from .. heres the
problem.

I went to antique shop and found some very important war bonds with that name
on it.

I looked it up and according to some cencus in the states, the name is Lith and not
Polish, but I seen it under some people saying they were polish with this name
here.

I want to get these back to the actual family. the only clue that I found was the
Z was changed to H so the name is now Chaponis and no Czaponis. and that was
luck, because under the actual name I only could find one site online , no other clues.

these war bonds are worth money to this family.. the guy who had them was going
to throw them away, and I asked him if I could purchase them ( to return) . he said
sure.

any help would be appreciated big time..

this guys name was anthony and his wife was Martha. that is all I have to go on..
pretty sure both are deceased if these are at antique shop.

I don't know anything about the names...but I think what you are trying to do is very commendable! Good luck with your search.

I think I have a hit, but problem is, I am trying to call texas and it keeps telling me all
circuts are busy. so the person I think might be the next of kin ( I will definately ask
alot of questions) wont hear from me till they get the phone lines up..

thank you for saying that.. this is the third time I have since doing genealogy
returned or was able to return family heirlooms and or family documents.

I would want the same if someone came across my familys documents :)

I dont know personally about the family,, where about does your family live and
what names (given) are you looking for?

given names and locations of family, where they lived at one time would be
very helpful ..

Czaponis appears to be the Polish spelling of the Lithuanian surname Čaponis. Chaponis is an English phonetic respelling that ensures proper pronunciation. If written Čaponis, your average Yank woudl ignore the accent mark and say Kaponis. If the Polish spelling were used, he would Anglo-mangle it into Zaponis.
