Swan bake: carcasses and piles of feathers found next to cooking pots at migrants' camp

Carcasses from dead swans, broken up and stripped for food, have been discovered in a camp used by East European immigrants, according to reports.

Anglers and walkers spotted the sickening remains of the illegally slaughtered royal birds beside the River Lea in east London.





Many months ago the right-wing hate paper, The Daily Mail published a story about East Europeans eating swans and carp from UK waters contrary to English law. The Sun also published a similar scare story but was foreced to retract.

The Mail does not like foreigners. On a daily basis it prints distorted stories about Poles, romanians, asylum seekers - in short, anyone not white, English and middle class.

Today saw another such 'story'. If you read the article you will find there is little or no evidence for the claim and is mostly based on hearsay evidence. Note too, the angry comments from the barking mad readers. Anyone trying to post a comment disagreeing will not get it published.

If anyone from Poland feels strongly about the article they should contact the Polish embassy or consul to register a complaint.

actually the story was printed on several other non right wing papers, and three poles were arrested in december for stealing protected carp from rivers

Protected carp? C'mon..... it's a bottom feeder rubbish fish. If it is illegal, then i'm sure they'll be fined. Rightfully so, but people in the US do this too. It's not just because they're Polish. You're diggin.....

I guess it's all better than chicken slaughterhouse workers molesting your chicken before you get it :/

The carp part may well be true, but the swan part is extremely fishy. Which non-right wing papers reported anything about Poish people eating swans?

Officially only the reigning monarch is allowed to kill and eat swans in the UK. Swan was at one time eaten at formal dinners at certain Oxford and Cambridge University colleges. I think that was abandoned a long time ago. These days they just order in some pizza.

PS - just ignore the Daily Mail. Nobody takes it seriously

Thats why its not protected (fcuk me you wouldnt eat if you saw what was in some of our canals and rivers)...in fact I dont fcuking know of any fish that's protected...

Never eaten a swan but I was once at a wedding in Inverary Scotland and was informed that every now and then one of the local swans would go missing.

But only on very special occations.....apparenty they are a good meal.

The rarer fish in the UK are protected species such as the Vendace, Burbot and Powan. Sturgeon in UK waters are also protected by law, technically they are owned again by the reigning monarch.
Contrary to Shelley's opinion the water quality in most rivers in Engalnd and Wales is actually pretty good and many of the fish are good eating and perfectly safe to eat. Species such as Pike, perch, carp and zander are all good if prepared correctly. Just remember that there is a maximum of 2 fish to be removed a day.

If anyone wants a free meal from their local river, there is an invasive species of crayfish, a crustacean, not a fish that is causing quite a lot of damage in some rivers. Take and eat as many as you like! I believ it is the red signal crayfish. I hope it's edible because I've just told you all to go and eat some.

Trapping crayfish in England and Wales is illegal unless you have a permit from the Environment Agency due to the native white clawed crayfish being under threat. So do not go down to your local river and do this without a permit:

I'd quite like to give swan a try. Especially if it was a choice of that or McDonalds.

Supposedly the best way to get seagull is to put 'alka-seltzer' in a piece of bread and give it to a seagull. Due to there inability to belch/burp/flatulate something inside bursts and they die!
