I think it might be possible as my brother and I got our Polish passports last year - we were both born in London but our parents were born in Poland (Krakow & Lwow) after 1918. We had to get sworn translations of our birth certificates and send them to be registered in Poland (Warsaw), certified copies of our parents birth and marriage certificates, a letter from Warsaw saying they accepted our application, submit a CV, application form and a fee and then 12-16 months later we got the passport.

Karta Polaka da przywileje rodakom zza granicy

That was intended to help people who really miss their country and fell Polish , to go back to Poland. Descendants from deported Poles to Kazachstan and Russia , not for undefined cowards who wants to leave america, cause there may be a war with black in 2060 or so..

my Grandfather fled Poland with his Brother in 1916 or 1917 I think. He was born in Poland in 1900. As I understand it he didn't leave by choice but by necessity as he was a jew. (the dates may be slightly off ) He settled in USA and became a US citizen.
I would like to claim my Polish Citizenship based on his circumstances. Is this possible?
I understand that refugees of war are seen differently than someone who left by choice.
Any thoughts?

With a great-grandfather the famial relationship is too great to get Polish citizenship. I contacted a Polish embassy about that not too long ago. Your best bet would be to convice the parent with the Polish blood to try to get citizenship since he/she is the grandchild of a Polish citizen. Then if that is succesful it will be easier for you to gain citizenship through your parent.

Your best bet in any case though is to contact your nearest Polish Embassy and ask them for their opinion on what you may need to do to gain citizenship. Many embassy sites also include the basics that you need to claim citizenship as well.

I am actually the great-grandson of a Polish immigrant who came to the United States after 1918. Since I'm still a teenager, this age thing works out. However, he was an illegal immigrant and never officially notified either Poland or the US of his whereabouts. I would like to have Polish citizenship so as to have an EU passport, so do you think this would be possible? I know my claim is rather sketchy, but the outcome would be well worth the difficulties.
No one ever officially renounced their Polish citizenship, and I can't see why it wouldn't just pass along.

Hi, Let me see if i've got this right...

In my case:

My grandfather was born in Poland and moved to USA (some time after 1925ish). My father, born in NYC, has never filed for Polish passport.

However, I live in the UK and would like to have a Polish passport. I do qualify for a UK ppt but the cost is over £700 (!!). Therefore, I am wondering, can I apply directly to Polish Government office for myself, or does my dad need to get his Polish passport first (assuming he would even want to)?

Many thanks!

you would probably need some sort of papers, like birth certificates. there are agencies that can help you out with this stuff and do all the leg work, obviously for a hefty fee.
